Default oh look another weird noise question

Alright I have a new bonneville problem, we just got in from a 1000 mile vacation. I now notice a slower than tire spin noise kinda sounds like a blender only louder. It stats at 35 mph and stays at that same speed no matter what the rpm. I have worked on cars for 15 years and this is a first for me. Anyone else have this issue. - Ron

The starting around 30-35 points to the symptoms of a bad wheel hub. It'* quite a different sound than the old roller bearings would make when they went. Sometimes, it will get louder or softer, when you turn the wheel a particular direction. If so, that gives a hint toward which one may be bad.

I guess its on the pass. side then because I replaced the drivers side at the end of winter because the tire was shaking all over the place. The wife says it makes a clunk during turning for the last two weeks. Its not the intermediate shaft because I checked it in park about a hour ago, I have lubed it once already. I heard it once on a left turn it was a loud bam a metal to metal noise. My question is can I easily check for a bad hub by jacking up the car and giving the tire a "shake". Thanks in advance for help archon

oh yeah I forgot to mention that the noise changes under braking. I kinda thought that it might be a hub when I heard it change.

Sometimes the tire shake works, sometimes it doesn't. A friend'* was as solid as it could be with that test, yet it was still noisy. For the clunk, check the tie-rod ends (that should show up with the shake) and strut bearings. Put your hand on the top of the strut under the hood, or on the spring, while someone turns the wheel...see if you can feel it there. Another possibility is the spring seat on the strut. Depending on your year..some have had problems with that wearing through.

Agreed..if it'* a constant sound and only while moving..it'* typically a wheel bearing.
