Default Rear Shocks

Does anyone know if there is a rear shock availble for the bonnivelle'* that are NOT air shocks . My rear shocks are bad and i have looked at the monroe airmax shocks but dont like how the airlines are setup on these ( cheap looking like the old air shocks fron the 1970'* ) . I really dont mind removing the factory air setup . Did the same thing on my old buick that had the electronic suspension that never worked from day one and it rode 150% better . thanks

What about Monroe Sensatracs? Those are a very popular and better than OEM replacement. The air shocks are a big part of the suspension/handling of your car, I wouldn't remove it.

What year/trim car do you have? SE, SLE, SSEi... Please put that in your signature area.

EDIT: I am not completely sure if Sensatracs are available for the rear. I see the Max-Air shocks (probably what you mentioned) but those say they are for carrying extra weight/towing. No Sensatracs came up for the rear at Advance Auto, just the front. Since I am new to the 2000+ I'd wait for confirmation on what'* available.

I still wouldn't remove the air shocks.

KYB'* from Advance.

Aftermarket performance shocks. Special order, but they're worth it.

KYB GR2 is identical in performance and response to the Monroe Sensatrac, but they are not offered with air assist.

jrm, you need to put your year and trim level in your signature by editing your profile. I assume you have FE2 suspension if you have rear ELC. These are NOT air shocks. They are gas shocks with air assist. The air is for level control, but is also a calculated factor in your FE2 suspension.

If you delete the ELC struts you will upset your car'* handling and your *** will sag when loaded down.

As far as i know there are no direct replacement shocks available without air-assist.

There are some Riviera guys that modify ford superduty adjustable rancho shocks and have had terrific results with them, and should definately work for you if you dont mind doing the work to make them fit. (rivieras use the same shocks)

basically, you have to remove the lower bracket from your stock shock and install it into the rancho... and grind a small amount of material off of the top mount
