2000 SLE steering wheel positioning sensor
I know this may not be legal, but has anyone jumpered a resistor across the connector to the steering wheel positioning sensor? My sensor has gone bad and, rather than replace it, I thought about putting a resistor across the plug to "fool" the air bag light. If you don't want to put your answer on this forum, you can PM me.

I see nothing in the connector view that would indicate that the steering position sensor has anything to do with the airbag system. If you're having airbag issues, it is likely from a different cause.

The reason I am saying its the wheel position sensor, the problem occurred right after I removed/greased the intermediate shaft. I didn't do enough checking and wasn't aware that the steering wheel had to be locked in position so that the sensor doesn't get screwed up. Along with the airbag light staying on, I'm getting check tire pressure, check oil pressure, etc. messages on the DIC. I haven't taken the time to get the codes pulled yet.

How far was the wheel turned while the shaft was out? If it isn't moved much beyond 45 - 180* degrees, and is returned to its original position, you shouldn't have a problem. Check connections and wiring in that area to see if you disturbed something. Also, as Boosty said...check and make sure that you don't have an oil pressure problem.

Oil pressure is fine.
I did the intermediate shaft a while back but, if my mind serves me right, the steering wheel had been rotated 360 degrees. I'm 99% sure its the WPS, but don't want to go thru all the trouble of removing the column, etc. As I said, I know on some cars, ie, Chrysler products, that you can get the airbag light to go out by putting a 2.0 ohm, 5W resistor across the plug. Was just trying to find out if anyone on this forum has tried that with the Bonneville.

That sensor has two parts to it and then compares the phase difference between the two. While turning the wheel that far out of position could very well have damaged that sensor, the only reported problem that causes is to set the service stability system warning on the DIC. If you have that many warnings being displayed, I believe you have more issues than that sensor. Perhaps as simple as a blown fuse, or as "bad" as a defective instrument cluster. I'm not aware of anyone bypassing the airbag system with a resistor.
