Melting Headlamp Lenses
Hello all, I have had Silver Star Headlamps for some time in my 2002 SSEI. I recently noticed an area of the low beam headlamp that is clouded and looks to be melting. The other lens, again over the low beams, is fogging and looks like the plastic is going to do what the other lens has done. Two questions:
What is the problem?
Where can I look for the headlamp assembly, GM says the lens is a part of the whole unit and they want big bucks for one, let alone two new headlamp units?
I recently had repaired under warrenty the head gasket and lower manifold gasket, as well as the two valve cover gaskets. Also a new alternator and power steering pump. I have also repalced the front ball joint and arm on one wheel, both front hub baring, one of them twice, two AC fan motors, new intermediate steering shaft, new radio because the lights burned out, and several new switches that also burned out. The lens over the back of the trunk has the known leak, but GM wanted alot to fix it after I went out of the standard warrenty, the extended warrenty does not cover plastic lenses. I know I can do the repairs that are on this site, but have not done it yet so there is water in the lens that covers the back of the trunk lid.
I love the looks of my Bonneville but I swear this car is possesed. I have gone thorugh three set of tirs, a number of front whell and four whell track rebalances and road force balances on the tires, and still get vibrations from 50-80. Hope others have had better luck, I pay this off in Sept and hope to look for a new car, the track record on this one is not so good.
Thanks all.

be positive, i had several problem too with my 2000, intermediate shaft(still not replaced but it stop making noise by itself) , 2 bearing , steering wheel positionning sensor, boost control solenoid, pressure solenoid in tranny (hardshift,1811 code) , lower intake gasket, and all other to do the job, i probably have a bearing on the top of the struts that is bad, i have a leaking "boot" if its called like this. my front wheel vibrate too, as soon as i chirp the tire, they seem to unbalance, anyway its not a big vibration. i just drive over 65 mph and its fine
one heat seat wont work, driver side, very funny in winter at -40 celcius. 1 or 2 light in dash. my driver side window wont move if the door is open.
BUT... its stiil the best car ive owned yet, im quit young (25) but i got from beginning,
ford escort, eagle talon 91 TSI AWD, civic SI(canada)'98, civic hatcback'91(modded,still have it) another eagle talon, and now my bonny.
its the car i have the more problem with(the first year i got it,got it december 2003) but now everything is fine and ill sell my honda before it, it run better than any other car ive try,it have luxury and great overall power.
i know theres better car but despite some problem i think it worth it, just put a 3.4 pulley with an intake, 180 stat, and may be a new PCM, and i guaranteed youll love it like i do.
the bonneville(or GM'* cars) isnt the only with problems, just look at the Acura TL auto tranny, Volkwagen'*, honda too are less reliable than '90'* generation. anyway..
goodluck

Melting Headlamp Lenses
I have looked on ebay and on the web. I have found some headlamps sold new and used. I found the new ones for $150 each, and used were not much less so I think I will buy the new ones. The old ones have ssei on them, dont know if the new ones will or not?
