245'* or 255'*
I want to put something a little wider on my 01 SSEI and was curious would 255 50 17'* work with no issues or should I go with 245 50'*?

I'm running 245/45 on my 97 and still have a little room left. A 245/50 should fit with no problem and be very close to stock size. I have heard of some people running 255s but I believe they have rubbing problems.

From what I've read in the past Dan, some have gotten away with it, some say no go, and some say slight rubbing here and there that they ignore. Probably a couple factors involved when you get the tire that close to the body. Whether it'* a stock rim, how much offset if its an aftermarket rim, and even tire manufacturer.

Very true, also you need to consider the hight of a tire. a 45 is going to have a bit more room to move then a 50. My tire is about 1" less tall then stock giving me a bit more room to move. If I turn my wheel all the way I have a good inch of clearence, so I could have gone with a 255. I'm considering my next set of drag radials to be 255 instead of the set of 245s I have.

I've got 255/50R17'* on my stock 17'*. I haven't had any rubbing. Not a lot of places stock that size though, you'd have to wait if you ever need to replace 1. I hit a nice MN pothole and put a nasty bubble in one of my Kumho ASX'*, took 3 days to get a new one. No one in the Minneapolis area stocked the size.

I have 255/50/17'* on mine and have had them for about 3 years. I just recommend getting them rotated every 3 to 4 thousand miles. My RE750'* lasted 40k. I'm looking at new tires now also but they have gotten rid of all the nice tread designs. And I can't find the RE750'* anymore because they discontinued them. LIFE HAPPENS!
