Default Center Console removal 2000 Bonneville

Hi All,

First, awesome forum!!

Second, I need advice removing my center console to get the carpet out (clogged AC drain).

I've removed the front seats, 4 mounting screws on either side of the console, and removed the shifter handle. The back of the console lifts up but it'* still attached at the front where it meets the cigarette lighter/AC/radio etc.

I'm sure unhooking the front part is straight forward but I don't want to snap anything.

Could someone help explain what I need to unhook? I searched the forum but could only find basic help like "...after you remove the console..".

Many thanks!

There are 4 bolts around the HVAC controlls and the radio, dont forget those or you could easily break the mounting tabs

You guys rock! I've been driving around with half my interior and passenger seat missing all week. Pulled up to work this morning, had a few mins to spare, and was able to undo everything holding the console down. Thought I'd share for anyone else who needs to do this;

- Remove passenger seat (Torx #50 socket )
- Remove driver seat (Torx #50 socket )
- Remove 4 visible console bolts where the seats were (10mm socket)
- Remove trim around doors
- Remove trim around AC/Radio/Steering wheel (put shifter in Drive for more space)
- The plastic circle around the ignition may pop off too. Thats ok.
- Remove trim around Cigarette lighter (unplug it)
- Put shifter back in Park
- Remove Shifter handle - pull canvas down, there is a clip hidden in the neck (screwdriver)
- Remove 4 bolts from the AC/Radio area (10mm socket + extension)

Sliding the console out;

- Lift the console from the rear, about 4 inches off the floor
- Pull the console towards the back seat while angling towards the drivers side.
- Basically it doesnt slide in a straight line. You need to angle toward the drivers side.

Thanks!!

Yeah, I'm glad too because once the carpet is up I get to tackle all the electrical problems which have plagued me for 2 years - power windows, central locking, power mirrors, dancing dash board lights, security, beeping etc.

Nice car to drive but a complete pain in the arse regarding the electricals
