Default "Lean Fuel Bank One - Help!" SOLVED

HI, and Happy Hollidays everyone.

OK I recently had the mechanic at the lot where I got my car fix his screw up with my int-shaft. I also made them fix the LIM gasket that had the common leak by the #3 ijector. Today my wife was driving down the road and the SES light came on. The car is running fine so I unhooked the battery cable for a while, but no luck light'* still on. So I went to autozone to get the code tested. When the guy at autozone hooked up his computer it wouldn't even turn on. He checked it on his own car and it worked fine, so it wasn't his computer. So my question is, could the mechanic have messed something up in the process of either repair? This is getting very annoying having to deal with these people,so if anyone possibly knows how to fix this problem or what could have caused it any input would be very appreciated.

Do you have any symptom on your car? does it feel different in any way?

Try to get it scan elsewhere, and if it still doesnt work, theres something wrong,
but we need to know if you have any symptom on your car to point in any directions.

Without the code we cant help you. may be your plug is bad. (i dont think thats the PCM imo)

The car runs fine, no miss, no bad exhaust odors. The manager at autozone, said something about the fact that the plug doesn't work is tripping the SES light, Is that possible?

I dont think that can trip the ses light, but many code can happen without really notifying symptom, you need to get your car scanned elsewhere to findout if you get any plug problem.

Sorry to here this SJC, I only have the FSM for a '97 (sorry), but thought I would let you know what I found.

I don't see where a fault in the Data Link Connector (DLC) would set the light (but this is the '97 FSM).

A fault in the DLC connection is apparently/usually due to a poor/broken electrical connection.

Check the connections/harness/terminals at the PCM and, if possible at the DLC. Look for bent pins in the connectors and for wires that may be cut/show signs of rubbing.

At the DLC, look for any broken connectors in the DLC itself.

For '97 (2000+ may be different), looking at the DLC connector below, the following cavities should have connections:
2,3,4,5,8
9,11,14,16
The rest are not used/empty

\ 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 /
\9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16/

Battery Feed is 16
Ground Circuits are 4 and 5

I don't know if this helps or not, but I thought I would share what I coul find for the '97.

Thanks for the help guys, Iwent to another autozone in Durango this morning Their tester worked fine. I dont think the problem is my plug, when the guy there hooked it up it showed code 1701 Lean fuel bank 1. The SES light turned off on the way to Durango, Should I be worried or is this probably a fluke? I had him clear the code so I know if it comes back. When I expressed a concern about it reading lean the guy at autozone said that that is better than being rich :?: I'm pretty sure that I dissagree, his next story was even better though, I asked if they carried anything other than bosch o2 sensors and he tells me Bosch makes all the o2 sensors for all the other companies.
That goes to show autozone is only worth going to when you need a code scanned.

good to see the scan worked.
As for your code, let it go for the moment (if your think your car run good), if the code come back again, now make further investigation. Like a complete scan by someone in the club near you or anybody else with the necessary stuff.

Is the DTC list for 2000+ complete? I was flipping through them and didnt find the code I had. Inorder to tell if one bank was lean or rich wouldnt our cars have to have an O2 sensor for each manifold before the down pipie? I was thinking our cars only have two sensors aft of the down pipe and aft of the cat. Now I am kinda confused, I'm probably wrong to even wonder about this, but can some one explain to me how this code could be thrown. Please be patient with my noob questons I'm still learning,THANKS.

Good question! I would think that the list is complete.

DTC P0171 Fuel Trim System Lean is the closest code I saw...hmmmmm :?

I left the '97 FSMs at home. It would be nice if we could find someone with the 2000 FSM, but when I get home, I'll see what I can find.

Has the SES light come back on?

A little further research on the net:

Code P1701 for GM is usually a transmission code

Code P0171- Fuel System lean - bank 1 shows up as the code for W-bodies (grand Prixs, Regals, etc.).

We'll get you taken care of...if only you and I were a little closer :? (looks like a 7 hour trip between us )
