Security Light
Lately my security light has been staying on when I start my car. Probably 1 out of every 4 starts. So, I turn the key to the on position and make sure the light goes out or I have to restart my car. If the light doesn't go out, I have to turn off the car, and try again.
Our keys operate on a radio wave right? Do keys go bad after a certain amount of time?
I am assuming the key is what is triggering the Security light.

What year is your car? Do you have a second key, and if so, does it do it with that key, also? If you have a 2000 or 2001, there is a TSB regarding intermittent no starts due to plastic particles interfering with the electrical contacts in the ignition switch. There is a new replacement igntion switch available.

It'* a 2000, I only have one key, it only came with one. I didn't want to pay for a new one until I had to. I have one other key I made at wal-mart, just to get into the door, if I locked myself out.
My car starts, it just keeps the Security light illuminated and dings at me. Probably 1 out of every 4 starts.

For a test, a new key would likely be a lot less expensive than replacing the ignition switch, or the rear integration module that handles the theft system.

Wasn't there a thing last winter about the security going silly at times with the cold weather? I swear we were talking about that around Jan/Feb of this year.

You can buy the key at several places, including ebay. Then program it using the security relearn procedure. As you're having problems with the security light, only trying it will tell you if it will work properly.

So, I got the new PK3 key made for $25.00 and programmed it, starts right up... but same deal. The security light remains lit sometimes. It has no pattern, seems to go along with the temperature, but at the same time, if i turn it off and try again, it'* like a 70/30 chance it will come on again. I could care less, but I hate having lights on in my dash, especially at night, and when i shift out of park it dings at me.... What should I do next??
BTW... would it have anything to do with having an aftermarket headunit?
