Default Compass problems

Do any of you have problems with your compass. I don't have new speakers or any subs in the car, no new audio equipment at all. Saturday(19th) I started the car and compass calibration showed up on my DIC so I went to the school and drive around in circles and car said calibration complete. So today(22nd) I started the car up for work and turned the rear defroster on let the seats heat up for a couple minutes get in the car and compass calibration had shown up again. I did notice though that it seemed like as soon as I turned the rear defroster off the compass came back on and the calibration notice disappeared. Anybody know anything about this.

The only time my compass went out of calibration was when I had my son'* new stereo speakers in the trunk. The magnets from the speakers confused it.
It fixed itself without intervention.

large metal objects will do it as well.
I had my 4 way tire lug remover in a milk crate up against the back wall
and caused a problem.
I now tuck it under the mat.

That does sound like a strange problem. Do you live near or drive by any high voltage transmission lines? High magnetic fields can affect the operation of the compass.

Hmmm....you're in Indiana huh....maybe it'* alien crop circles. Sorry...couldn't resist.
Seriously now... I've only had problems as described by the others (carting speakers for my son). Everything else on the DIC is working properly right?

Yeah no other warnings on the DIC, today no problems with the compass. I don't live near any high voltage lines that I know of, and I didn't have any other problems with it before.

Yeah, sometimes these new fangled electronics can get a little flukey, then never glitch again. I call it FM.

I have problems with compass calibration all the time! Nothing in my trunk (except the odd dead body now and then). I have disconnected the compass module in the trunk at times during the summer as it gets worse with heat, so I figure a loose connection or wire somewhere. In the winter the wires stiffin up and the problem goes away. I have posted up here before about this and several others have the same annoying problem. Unfortunately no one has found a solution yet.......except just keep driving in circles I guess. lol
