Trunk Seal ?
I'm going to replace the trunk seal on my 2000 Bonneville SE. There appears to be sealant already applied to the new seal from the dealer. Does anyone know if more sealant is required :?:

Why? Do you have a water leak. If so, the answer is yes. Save your money. Pull the old rubber gasket off about 12" on both sides of center and apply some black RTV sealant in the seal groove. Press it back on, wipe up the excess, and close the trunk.
Water has a tendancy to work itself under the bottom of the gasket, then up and over the metal trunk seam, then down into the spare tire well. At least that is what mine was doing. Acutally I found out normal rain would not cause a leak. Leaks would happen when I hand-washed my car and directed water stream directly at the trunk area where it meets the bumper.
Good luck.

Yeah, I had the same problem as compyelc4 has stated, but mine would leak only when driving in the rain. It wouldn't fill up the spare tire well, but rather leak into the passenger compartment. You could see a trail of water spots leading from the trunk seal, all the way up to under the back seat.
I pulled the trunk seal up until it turned the corner near the tail lights. Then I used black RTV as stated above.
No more water in my car! Worked great.

Had the exact same problem. Wet trunk carpet and water collecting in the spare tire well. re-siliconed the seal and it has been bone dry since. Seems like water coming in at that point is really common.
