Default How to get stubborn plug wires off

I can not for the life of me free any of the rear plug wires, I ended up breaking all the front wires off and cutting them up to get them off. these are original apparently and gm decided not to use any silicone lube on them at the time.

Any ideas to get the rear plug wires off? Access on the 2000+ is not too good. I cant for the life of me free any of them.

I'm looking for creative ideas or anything I can do to get the wires off.

twisting is the key to get them loose.

If that doesn;t work they make tools for it.

AC Delco wires come prelubed. In your case, it'* been so long since they were touched. FSM says turn then at least 1/2 turn before ever trying to pull. I'd say get them off anyway possible at this point.

Since salvage is out, try grabbing them with a pair of pliers and tapping the plier handles with a hammer. Hard to do I know hanging upside down :P

I had a heck of a time with the rear when I first did the plugs, also. It'* almost as if they glued them on at the factory! It took me much longer just to do one plug on the rear than it did for all of the front! I managed to get 2 & 4 off by hand, but had to twist them about 3/4 turn. #6, I finally put some vise grips on them at 12 o'clock and spun it to about 9 o'clock before it came loose. It sounds a lot easier than it was. Any spark plug boot puller I had was too big to get into the tight space.

For easier access to the back plugs you can take off that black bracket from the back of the engine that i think is used to hoist the engine out, and then just set it aside if you need it later. That bought me a little more arm room. I wish i had taken pictures of my fore arms after i did my wires. You guys must use a little more finesse that I, because my arms looked like i fought a bobcat when i was done.

I've been putting off doing mine for the very same reason being discussed here.

Would these work?

What worked for me was after the exhaust manifolds were removed, it was easy to lever them off with a large screwdriver prying against the wire cap over the plug.

Surely you're not suggesting removing the exhaust manifolds to get the boots off; are you?
