My poor 01 has been nickle and diming me to death. I maintain it well, but something always breaks. I have put new rear shocks ($400), brakes ($400), tires, put a used tranny in it ($1200), flexpipe ($330), now it needs an EGR valve.

I looked into a warranty, and was quoted $1200 for a 3 year, 50,000 mile warranty that would start from the day I bought it. The stipulations are you have to wait 90 days and 1000 miles to make a claim. The deductible would be $100. The car must be maintained (oil, etc) at the dealer from the day the warrranty is purchased.

The warranty is all inclusive on the motor, supercharger, tranny, A/C unit, and electrical components. I have not replaced the timing chain, the supercharger has the original oil, and the A/C compressor is getting a bit noisy...bearing or something. Lastly, I have to add a quart of oil every 1500 miles or so meaning rings/bearings are wearing.

Does anyone have any experience with these warranties? Does it sound worth it? If the tranny goes out again it would pay for itself. With the a/c possibly needing service this spring from the noisy compressor, and the motor using oil...I wonder if I drove the car another 3 years if those things would go out and make the warranty worth it?

My opinion, not worth it. But I have a shop and do my own work. Used supercharger, about $125 and $20 in gaskets. Noisy AC compressor, adjust clutch, tool just over $20.

If you have no shop and very few tools, then perhaps it'* worth while.

You need to get the term and conditions and read them carefully. You need to be very sure of waht you are purchasing. If you are unsure of anything you need someone to explain it.

Don't forget, the dearlerships would not offer these programs if they didn't make a lot of money off them. That means, on the average, you pay more than you save. If in the long run your repairs are higher than average, it will be worth it for you.

As Danthurs stated, if you have no tools, shop to work in or mechanical knowledge, that also plays a factor in your decision. Your $400 brake job could have cost $100 if you were able to do it yourself.

i did it to mine but they wont honor repairs if you didnt have places do the simple crap for ya like for one i can't even change my own oil anymore they want reciepts from a shop that did it so i worked a deal with a buddy of mine so i do the change and he gives me paperwork free!!!! i only got it incase the tranny or motor goes i dont have $6,000 laying around for that but the small stuff i got it myself
i got mine through stoprepairbills.com only cost me $79 to start and $70 a month for 2 yrs not bad if i get a new motor or tranny out of it which im sure will happen at least with the tranny total cost over 2 yrs of paying $1754.00 got mine with discounts was almost $3000

Don't do it. I just bought my car from a major car dealer and was given a 90 day 10,000 mile warranty with my purchase. It'* a teaser in attempt to suck you into buying the longer term warranty. They said my car was a "Q-Certified" pre-owned vehicle. They give this big long checklist of thins that were "thoroughly checked" to assure that you are getting a good used car. Well...just two weeks after buying the car the tranny went out. I took it back to the dealer, and they said that the warranty would not cover it because it was pre-existing damage. I was like, what does that even mean? I told them that if this was the case, then their tech (who did the "pre-certified inspection") should have caught it. I called my salesman (who was of course super nice when I was buying the car) to tell him what was going on, and his exact words were "what do you want me to about it?" Needless to say... I was furious. After two months of fighting with the warranty company, they finally got sick of hearing from me and gave in. They put a brand new tranny in it. It was close though, they fought it pretty hard and the dealership would do nothing about it. All in all, I was out of a car for two months and the dealership wouldn't even give me a loaner. If it'* not the actual manufacture warranty company, I would stay away.
