:( Well my bonne has had it'* first major problem, almost a year to the day i bought it.
Was driving in Milton today when my car started to shudder really violently, then i lost all gears. No warning lights or whistles to tell me something was wrong. Anyways i got it towed to the dealers and should know something tomorrow. The best thing about this is the dealer gave me use of a rental for the night even though the warrenty has run out. Which i though was great, just one more reason to let the dealership look after your car if you can afford it I also asked him to do the SB on the steering lubrication, i think a lot of ppl have had it done in this forum. Anyways i'll keep you posted.

This sounds similar to what happened to my 2000 SSEi a few months ago. The torque converter came apart and really chewed up the transmission. I had to replace it with a rebuilt GM model.

I hope your problem isn't that serious. Let us know what happens.

The 4T65 transmission is definitely problem-prone, but I thought it was only in the SSEi???? The good news in my case was that even though my car was out of warranty (56K) when the transmission failed, I was able to convince GM to pay for the $1800 repair.

:( I haven't got alot of info yet other than when they dropped the pan they found metal off some gear. I'll know more on Monday. The tranny is a right off, i was quoted at possibly 3k for a rebuild taxes extra.... or 3252. brand new plus taxes with 3 year 80,000 installed. So of course i went with brand new. I should have it back on Monday they say. When i pick it up i'll ask him the question jr's3800 mentioned. They did give me the rental free of charge till i get my bonne back....cool.

Deb, Sorry to hear about your transmisson failing. I'll be interested also to find out what failed. How many miles...........err km on your car? Good luck with it, sounds like a decent Dealership you're working with also.

Unless your have very excessive miles, or unless your car has been abused, the transmission should not fail this soon. Ask your dealer about some help on the repair bill.

They will probably tell you that there is nothing that they can do (which is pretty-much true), so I would contact Pontiac about this, and see if you can get some help. Ask your dealer to put you in touch with the Pontiac representative for your area.

Again, I went this route...and they picked up the tab for the whole job. The key thing is to be nice to everyone......don't make them mad or you will be out of luck!

My husband and i are the only ones who drive it so i can only comment on my
own driving which is pretty normal, as for the hubby.....hmmm guess i'll have to take
his word
I still have the original window sticker,the car orginated from BC. The owner was transfered to Ontario so he drove it here then sold it. I will get in touch with the Pontiac Rep on Monday to see what they can do.

If I did the conversion right, 88,000 Kilometers equals about 55,000 Miles...almost the identical mileage as when my transmission let go at 56,000 miles. I wonder if that'* a coincidence?

I asked Pontiac to just explain to me why one of their transmissions driven under normal circumstances and well maintained would come apart so soon. They finally admitted that they had no explanation because it never should have happened...and then they sent me a check.

One other note: you will probably first get referred to Pontiac customer service at 1-800-PONTIAC. They are very nice people, but be prepared for them to turn down any request for financial help. The key person to reach is the local GM/ Pontiac district manager for your area. He/ she has all the power to help you out.

I got my car back on Tuesday. I asked the dealership what exactly went wrong with the tranny. They showed me a diagram of the inner workings and said something to the effect that everything behind this certain gear had broke apart. I went with the brand new tranny which in the end the total cost was 3889.00. I placed my call to GM Customer Service to see about the good will offer and what they could do for me, and explained that the total cost was 12 months car payment. They said they would check in to it and get back to me. I don't expect much to happen but i had to try. I must say this about Wallace'* and Dave Fraser they treat you great, not only did they not charge me for the 5 day car rental but i also got the towing free. I'll never buy another car without purchasing the extended warranty.

Ouch that bills gotta hurt. Hope gm can come through for you and glad to hear your back on the road.
