Default Transmission trouble?

2000 Bonneville SE

so somethings wrong with the car, the Service Engine Soon light is on. When you floor it from rest, the car has a hard time pulling itself through to gain speed, and at the higer rpm range, for brief periods, it seems as if the engine strains to put power to the wheels. This only happens when the pedal is floored all the way down. It seems as if there'* something wrong with the transmission, as if it'* not catching right.

Any1 have any ideas?

Doesn't sound as much trans related as it is Engine.....Almost sounds like it'* not getting enough fuel to the cylinders under a WOT condition. Or you could have a plugged catalytic converter or fuel filter, either way, doesn't sound like a trans to me.

Have you had the code that kicked on the SES light read yet?

this is exactly what my car started doing this weekend on teh way to NEBF, im pretty sure its not transmission related aswell...

Some auto parts stored will hook a computer up to your car and tell you what the engine light is on for, we really need this before we can help much at all

does your car seem better when its cold, i just noticed that when the engine is cool, that it doesnt seem nearly as severe, im not sure if this is more of a symptom of fuel or clogged cat.. maybe it was a fluke?

I would says the cat is more related to heat then a fuel condition unless it is after a very long driving period and then it could be a weak fuel pump. Haven't seen very many bad fuel pumps in these cars but have seen several clogged cats on w-bodies and some h-bodies.

thats what i was thinking myself, i just hit 100k recently, and as far as i know its the original fuel filter, so im going to change that first to see what happens...

My car seemed to be doing the same thing a couple of months ago. I had the code read, it was a misfire. Turned out that the #1 plug wire was bad.

i asked a neighbour of mine about the bonny and what it could be (he is restoring a late 60'*/early70'* plymouth duster and a plymouth road runner, so i'm pretty sure he would know what he'* talking about :? ).

went to the auto store, and bought new plugs, wires, and fuel filter. checked the air filter and it was still pretty good. if all this doesnt work, the cat goes next.

didnt bother getting the code checked at GM, they want +$100 ... might as well fix the problem and get new parts while im at it :P
