Default What Rotors should I go with?

POWER SLOT ROTORS (GROOVED). $262/PAIR

It’* a fact that venting the gas emitted by hot brake pads improves overall brake performance and helps minimize fade. At one time the conventional wisdom in racing circles was to cross-drill brake rotors to aid cooling and eliminate the gas emitted by brake pads. However, today’* elite teams in open wheel, Indy and Trans Am racing are moving away from crack prone, cross-drilled brake rotors in favor of rotors modified with a fatigue resistant slotting process.

Power Slot’* ProStop rotors were developed to combine the look of a cross-drilled rotor with the durability of a slotted rotor. ProStop rotors are enhanced with a series of drilled “dimples” that look like cross-drilled holes (especially when brake dust is collected at the bottom of the dimples after several hundred miles of driving). By installing ProStop rotors, a driver can have the “look” of a cross-drilled rotor and the performance of a slotted rotor without compromising the structural integrity of the rotor. ProStop rotors with their faux-drilled dimple treatment are specifically designed to provide a safer alternative to drilling crack prone holes through cast iron rotors.

The ProStop slotting process and faux-drilled treatment removes less heat absorbing mass and less of the rotor’* surface area than conventional cross drilling to help maintain the highest possible co-efficient of friction for the brake pads to work against.

Starting with select castings manufactured in Italy and the U. *. , all ProStop rotors are CNC machined to application specific tolerances that utilize a patent pending tapered-slot technology to create a vent for brake dust and pad gasses while preserving rotor strength. The slot designs of ProStop rotors are angled to use the rotors’ direction of rotation to enhance performance. This makes them side specific with left side (driver’*) and right side (passenger’*) rotors.

Brightly-plated ProStop rotors also eliminate rusty rotor syndrome and enhance the look of custom wheels. Their military spec, cadmium plating adds a high-tech appearance and corrosion resistance.

Power Slot ProStop rotors are designed to provide the looks of a drilled and slotted rotor while meeting the challenges of high performance driving and severe duty brake demands. Power Slot ProStop rotors represent one of the most cost-efficient performance brake upgrades offered in the market today.

IMPORTANT REMINDER: Slotted, drilled or dimpled rotors offered as OEM replacements should not be considered appropriate for high-speed track use.

While grooved, drilled and slotted rotors offer an enhanced appearance and add some resistance to the boundary layer of gasses that can build up between the pad and rotor, they are not designed to withstand the extreme temperatures that are produced on the racetrack. If they are used on the track, it is very important that the rotors be carefully inspected and should not be driven on if even minor signs of deterioration are seen. Note, too, that if these products are used on the track they are not warrantable.

Power Slot’* ProStop II rotors were developed to combine the look of a cross-drilled rotor with the durability of a slotted rotor. ProStop II rotors are enhanced with a series of four drilled “dimples” that look like cross-drilled holes (especially when brake dust is collected at the bottom of the dimples after several hundred miles of driving). By installing ProStop II rotors, a driver can have the “look” of a cross-drilled rotor and the performance of a slotted rotor without compromising the structural integrity of the rotor. ProStop II rotors with their faux-drilled dimple treatment are specifically designed to provide a safer alternative to drilling crack prone holes through cast iron rotors and offer a more aggressive appearance than the original ProStop rotors.

BREMBO SPORT SLOTTED ROTORS $246/PAIR

Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are for drivers who want to improve the looks and performance of their vehicle’* original braking system without having to change additional brake components. Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors provide excellent stopping power in everyday traffic, as well as high performance street and track driving.

Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors match the vehicle’* original equipment rotor’* dimensions and are fully compatible with its hubs, brake calipers and road wheels. Front and rear Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are available to provide a matched appearance on all four corners of the vehicle, and employ one-piece vented or solid rotors depending on the vehicle’* original equipment specifications.

Starting with select castings, Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors undergo the race-born practice of machining multiple shallow slots into the disc’* front and rear surfaces to provide paths to disperse built-up heat and gasses, and assist in refreshing the surface of the brake pads. Compared to cross-drilled rotors, machined slots have been widely adopted for racing and street use because they minimize the cracking caused by repeated, high stress, high temperature brake applications. The slots are angled to use the rotors’ direction of rotation to enhance their performance, which makes the rotors side-specific with left and right side rotors. Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are sold in axle pairs and the easiest way to verify correct usage is to install the rotors on the side of the vehicle that results in the end of the slot nearest the outer edge of the rotor always contacting the brake pads first.

Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are coated for corrosion resistance to help eliminate rust and offer a bold, aggressive appearance to enhance the look of the vehicle’* road wheels. NOTE: Light Truck and SUV rotors with studs or bearings are uncoated.

Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors are designed to meet the challenges of high performance street driving while adding an authentic, race-ready look.

NOTE: Brembo Sport slotted brake rotors can be used in conjunction with race compound brake pads on the track for drivers’ schools and lapping days.

EBC SPORT GROOVED ROTORS $242/PAIR

Gold rotors: Import Applications
Black rotors: Domestic Applications

While EBC brake pads will work well with original equipment and good quality brake rotors, the award-winning EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors will enhance a vehicle’* appearance while they help it stop.

One look at the EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors through a vehicle’* wheels reveals a "Full Sweep" groove pattern that helps keep the surfaces of the brake pads clean (by scraping away burnt carbon deposits from the pad’* surface) and ensures parallel brake pad wear. Then, "Blind Hole" dimples provide a “cross-drilled rotor" look while reducing the chance of the rotor cracking around the holes. Most import applications feature a gold anodized finish while most domestic applications are offered with a black finish.

EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors reduce brake fade by helping evacuate the surface film of gases that are often released during heavy braking. All brake pads contain some organic (living) materials, like the petro-chemical resins that bind the friction materials together. As the organic materials “overheat," they revert to gases that may cause the brake pads to lose some of their contact with the rotor, essentially “aquaplaning" away from the rotor on a film of gases. While some pads only fade once or twice before they settle down, the Sport Grooved Brake Rotors’ grooves and dimples help evacuate surface gases to reduce brake fade.

While EBC Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors are appropriate for “track day" applications, they should not be used for racing.

If you are using Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors for “track day" use, you MUST USE EBC REDSTUFF GRADE TRACK DAY BRAKE PADS. The amount or heat that can be put into the vehicle’* rotor system at a track day is hundreds of degrees more than is possible to achieve in road use. The Redstuff grade brake pads are appropriate because they are designed to:

* Last longer in track use
* Draw more heat out of the disc due to their design and construction
* Give less brake fade

If you intend to use Sport Grooved Sport Brake Rotors for track days, you should always take spare brake pads. If your car is running Greenstuff pads on the street, you should switch to Redstuff brake pads for track day use and then switch back to the Greenstuff brake pads for the journey home.

You might want to try SP slotted and diamond cut rotors also. I have them and they work great.

You can get them at raceshopper.com

They run a deal sometimes where if you buy pads also you get free shipping.

Those diamond-slotted rotors look pretty good. How are they reliability wise? Do you use ceramic pads? I'm just afraid of spending that much money and then still having brake squeal/warping rotors. :( I'm not sure what brake pads to buy. Would Raybestos ceramics be good? anybody ever hear of "satisfied PRO" pads? The Raybestos and the "satisfied PRO" pads are the same price..

Satisfied make good brake products and are well priced. I would stick witht the slotted rotors for a performance upgrade, many police cruisers and taxi cabs use them for their stopping power and long life.

That pic is of my rotor and car I can speak from experience (and for the record, the rotors are made by RSM Racing, Canada) that these are good rotors. Solved all my problems. Great performance with good quality ceramic pads. My car was the first H body to run them.

So far the rotors have been working great. I've had them on for about three months with several high speed stops. I'm using the hawk'* pads (also from raceshopper). Not sure which ones. I still have the box so I will check this weekend.

The brakes squeal once and awhile, I think only because of the material of the pads.
