Default Tips on Heater Core repalcement?

:?: Any tips on replacing the heater core on a 2000? Have a strong odor of coolant inside, and today started getting some fogging of drivers side windshield. Has dual (driver/passenger) temp controls (not sure if that was standard on all or an option). Looks like it could be no fun... Thanks in advance for any tips and recommendations.

Thanks... look forward to help. Had a subscription to alldatadiy online manual but let it lapse a while ago.

Thanks much for the link to the replacement procedure!!! Will look though this and see if I can tackle this.

Now if it was just that easy to get the actual replacement done through the web...

Default Update: Heater Core Replacement

Update for anyone interested... decided that repalcing the heater core was more than I wanted to tackle... involved removing much of dash and center console. Took to a local non-dealer service center who replaced it for a little over $400. Part was about $170 from GM, rest was labor. Did a good job... seems to be OK.

Asked that old core be returned however I could not determine exact leak point... seems to be where one of the inlet/exit tubes connect to body of core... no corrosion or anything visible. There is a rubber O-ring at this point... looks like it was leaking for some unknown reason.

Thanks for the earlier help.

Glad you got it resolved. It is a pretty labor intensive job, probably worth the $400.
