PCS Pressure Control Solenoid
Is the PCS a replaceable item on the transmission?
If so, can someone tell me how to get to it?
Is is necessary to remove the transmission?

All of this changing fluid and using additives to try to unclog or clean the PCS is getting expensive and becoming a litteral pain in the neck. I'm too old to be spending that much time laying on my back in the driveway looking up at this thing.

yes the PCS is removeable in the trans. Unfortunally the side cover of the trans has to come off. this can be done in the car but its really tight, better having the trans out of the car to do it

Also, is this something that wears out and has to be replaced, or is it usually something that just gets dirty and clogged over time and needs to be cleaned.
I'm coming to the conclusion that the folks I bought my 2001 SSEi from recently spent a good bit of time keeping up with the appearance of the car, but nothing else.
I assumed that if they had kept a car looking fantastic inside and out, that they also went to the trouble to do the mechanical upkeep as well.
That has proved to be a bad assumption.

lol a common assumption actually... but usually a major letdown in that mechanical cost $$$ and appearance is mostly cost in TIME, with a lil $ thrown in...
plus it looks pretty in the front yard... motors blown but look at the shine!razysmile:

I'm famaliar with that with that logic - I have three sons (21, 19, and 16 years old).
An hour or two washing and polishing yields immediate results. My older two can find a prime spot on the college campus and take their shirs off and be able to impress the co-eds by showing off their cool car, their cranked up stereo, and the results of a lifetime of weightlifting all at the same time!!
Oh, to be young again!!
But an hour on their backs in the parking lot changing oil doesn't seem to invite the same attention from the girls!

ya know... my prime automotive memory seems to result mostly in the south rather than the north where in oklahoma and texas its not a big suprise to see blonde hair blue eyed beauty slide out from under the car covered in oil tellin you your in her way and to move! razysmile:
