OK, I was rooting around under the hood and found the cover for the Cabin Air Filter. Opened it up and there'* no filter. Thinking it would be cool to have the filter in there, Kim procured one. The instructions say to manipulate a lever on the left side of the housing. I don't see no stinkin' lever. I'm pretty sure there'* some sort of bracket I'm missing...can someone confirm this?

i think once this get answered it should go in tech info or somewhere easy to find, it seems a lot of cars are missing it. :?

You can get the Fram filter listed in this thread that comes with the bracket.

Naturally. The one we got ain't got no bracket with it. Can the filter element be removed from the bracket on the FRAM units?

I believe that the filter can be removed, but I'm not 100% certain. I think Singscountry got one for hers, and I know a few others have. Perhaps they'll be able to confirm that. The 2000s came with the bracket.

I had a filter in mine originally and have replaced it once. No lever. Simply push it in.

Typically the frames (at least the GM ones) are reusable. The filter can be used w/o the frame, although it floats around a bit more w/o the bracket.

The frame/bracket can also be found in other H bodies of 00+ at your local JY'*.

When I had the filter put in ($30 installed when I got my oil changed) it made a big difference inside the car. Not so much as it filtered out smells or anything like that (au de skunk would still get through, lol) but it cut down drastically the amount of dust in the car that ended up on the dash and such by probably 95%. I used to clean the interior and BAM dusty the next 2-3 days. Now its months with no dust!

Mine must have come with the frame as OEM.
The filter is impregnated with charcoal.
One trick to keeping the system free from bacterial growth and gross smell is turning off the A/C periodically to let it dry out and not stay wet. That is a problem where I live.
