Default Good news.. Coolant Smell on SSEi found..

Well, I've complained all year since the Intake was resealed on the SSEi about smelling coolant.. Today, I see droplets of coolant underneath it. Believe me, it'* not from the intake or anything around it because I wouldv'e found that a long time ago! I am going to wait till we get it up on the lift to investigate.

She'* got 27K miles and visit #3 hopefully will get it rid of that damn Dexcool smell!

I'll update once something is done.. Unfortunately, All three vehicles have coolant leaks. Thanks GM.

Pat, are the coolant drops in the area under the throttle body? Or where specifically? There is a rectangular cover on the lower intake manifold under the area of the TB that could be a potential source for coolant leakage. It is kind of obscure to see. I knew at one time what it was called, can't find it right now in the FSM. Let us know what you find.

Everything underneath the throttle body and above the tranny is all clean. My curiousity is killing me now. I may put it up on ramps and look... It'* almost like a freeze plug.. Everything above the exhaust is clean, below is messy.. I may be wrong..

Oh well. I'll update once I find out something.. Later.. Pat

After my LIM gasket leaked about a year ago and after it was replaced at the dealer, I smelled coolant also. Turned out that a reused hose clamp on the radiator upper hose - where it attaches to the manifold - would no longer seal the original hose after being disturbed, causing a very slight leak - very hard to see when the car was hot. Something else to check...

Good luck !

Radiator hose looks good. All of that area looks good.

Got under the car and found what I presume is coolant (I can not tell the difference between dirty dexcool and oil.. There is no smell to it. But the car smells like coolant when hot) all over the bottom and front of the oil pan (side that faces the front of the car) and that black cover around the starter is wet. Then, I see a shiny area on the block beside the #6 cylinder.. But that leak stops just above the oil pan. Without taking it apart more, all I can wonder is if there is a leaky freeze plug in the back of the block or something. Oh well, it'* under warranty, I quit messing with it. Hope to get it in tomorrow.. Pat
