Question 2000 SSEi not running

i have a 2000 ssei and when the engin temp reaches 160 to 200 the car will stall out and not start. the only way it will start is if you hold the gas to the floor but once you let off it will die. i changed plugs, air filter and gas filter, with no change. i thought it was the fuel pump cause my gas gauge is messed up but it will put out 40 -45 psi both cold and hot. their was no gas in the fuel preasure regulater either. along with this problem it seems like its building up "black gas smelling exhaust" any help will help

Hmm.....Any DTC'*? Check the voltage at the TPS, ECT, MAF, and MAP.They should be a 5 volt reference. The ect has an opposite temperature coefficient. so aso voltage goes up temp goes up, resistance goes down, so, votltage goes down. the tps check while the key on and engine off. should start about 1 volt then at WOT close to 5 volts. Data list on a scanner will show you all of the live stream data.

Kinda sounds like a plugging cat. Try getting the car warmed up and running until it stalls. Remove the front O2 (be careful it'* going to be very hot). then try starting and running the car. Besides the check engine light and super loud noise..does it stay runniing? This is a back pressure test to see if the cat is plugged.

thanks will try the o2 out. all intake sensors are good. i got a crankshaft sensor and will also be putting it in tomorrow. i heard that the coolent sensor could be the cause.

The CKP can cause a no start. and an ECT most likeley wont cause a no start. I have had ECT'* reading -40 degrees F and the car still run... but it would run really rich.

i agree with Bill, it sounds like a pligging cat, but, i am leaning more towards the CKP. Let us know what it does after being replaced what it does. I would open the exhaust first then try to keep it running. if it doesnt work, the put the CKP in. Cuz if you do both at the same time, you won't know what fixed it.

There is a way to test the crankshaft sensor. I'll have to try and find the wire colors. But if you hook up a Ohm meter and turn the engine by hand the readings will go up and down as the tab passes the sensor. If you see a nice even change, the sensor should be OK.

Well, I thought I did a write up on this, guess not.

Its fixed, i did replace the crank sensor with no luck and i was reading in chiltons and they said it might also be a cam sensor, "get it at advanced atuo not napa they charge too much" and switched it out and now will run. i now get code p0102 which is the maf sensor. my car runs rought at first and has a low idel so ill be cleaning it or replacing it but it runs

If you unplug your MAF and then start the car, does it run better, or the same? If better try cleaning the MAF. Inspect the wire, if it'* broken replace the sensor. Be careful to not touch the wire.

Do not use the MAF cleaner in a can!!!! that is all bad stuff!!! Use a cotton swap and some hot soapy water.

Hmm, IMO, no touchy MAF wire.
