Default Gas Cap Open

Well it keeps coming up that on the display. I stooped and closed it not sure how it was open in the first place. But now even after I have put it back on the message keeps coming up on my display. Any guesses?

if it really was open it will show up on the DIC. and if there isnt a evap problem then try resetting the DIC.
while the message is up push the reset button. but you will have to hold the reset button for what seems like forever...... around 15-20 seconds

Check for rust around the gas filler neck... There'* also a purge vent unit you need to clean... I think it'* hooked to one of the lines that goes to the evap canister under the passenger side rear floor board.

I had this DIC error quite often on my 2001 SSeI. It was the purge canister solenoid causing the problem. The solenoid is mounted on a bracket on top of the engine very close to the firewall. After replacement, never had the light again.

Are you sure about that location? I've always been told it was in front of the rear wheel.

The names can often become confusing. The purge solenoid is on the engine. I believe it is in front of the UIM on the n/a engines. It'* back by the firewall on the supercharged engines. The vent valve is back by the rear tire. The more common failure is the vent valve not sealing properly, but the purge solenoid can also cause a problem.
