Stubborn Crank Pulley won't come off! :(
Hey guys,
Hope you're all having a good weekend. I took my car to my friend this weekend. He owns a garage staffed by some really good mechanics I went in to have my pesky Crank position sensor changed along with a tune up and supercharger belt/pulley change. The tune up went fine. Put in new plugs and wires as well as the new supercharger belt and new dayco pulleys. The problem we had was with the crank position sensor...
We raised the car up on the lift and removed the RF tire and splash guard in the wheel well to access the crank pulley. Removed the center bolt and attached a puller but man that thing would not budge 1/10th of a millimeter! It'* almost as if it has been machined on and it will never come off. We tried using a pry bar to wiggle it loose but nothing.. From my knowledge the crank pulley has never been removed as I purchased the car with 70,000km on it. It now has 107,000km on it. Have any of you guys come across this problem? The next step we are thinking of trying is to get the puller or whatever tool the GM techs use for removing the crank pulley.. that is.. if they do infact have a special tool that is..
Driving the car back home last night from the mechanics was an interesting one because whenever my car was stopped at a stop light the RPMs would dip below 1,000 and it felt like the car would stall... ...which it actually did do 2-3 on the way home. As well.. there is now a noise coming from the crank pulley as well.. ...kind of a chirping noise. It'* really noticeable when the car is idling in park or stopped at a red light. I reckon this noise is probably related to our failed attempt at removing the crank pulley am i correct?
I'm sure we'll be able to sort this out but I wanted to get your guys' thoughts in case anyone else has come across this as well and what solutions they came up with to rectify the situation. Thanks again guys for all the help as always. Cheers from Vancouver!

The puller isn't specific overall. It'* a standard 3 position steering wheel looking puller with three bolts that are m6 x 1.00 x 85mm
Best of luck. Haven't ever come across one that didn't want to come off.

Hey there Sawgunner
We were thinking of applying some heat yes but there is a rubber seal on the outside of the crank pulley and we didn't want to melt it by heating it up with a flame..

sounds like we might have to apply some heat afterall... i reckon it would be best to apply it on the circumference of the pulley all around the edges at 360 degrees yes rather than directly? kind of like taking a hammer/mallet to the edges of a stubborn rear brake drum if i guess correctly?

If the heat doesn't work just curious what type of puller your using GM makes a specific puller that works awesome, or at least i've never had a problem with it.
