Default Front Pass. Door Panel Removal / 2000 Bonneville SE

Hi
I am brand new to the forum. We have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville, and the front passenger power window quit working all of a sudden. It is in the up position thank god.

I would like to remove the inside door panel in order to get access for trouble shooting the problem. Are there any instructions or a web site that shows how to remove the panel?

I do know about the plastic rivets that you have to pry out from behind the panel, but what about any hidden screws like for the door handle and the power lock button, and for the door armrest?

Any help is appreciated.
Joe

Hi JDQ, great to know you are here at this forum. I found this forum today and thought I would put the question out here to. So your panel had NO hidden screws to deal with?

I am talking about the rear, but I am assuming it is the same, should just pry off , just start from one pin and slowly go around.Underneath will be a vapor cver and that will pry off too after un hooking some connections. The regulator and motor is 3 bolts and like I said there is a regulator thread on this page that should help you.And yes you will find this sight to be the best for all your repairs the people are awesome.John

no screws just body clips... theres also i tricky one by the door handle that you have to lift the panel upwards after all the clips are loose

Thanks Toast, I am going to make some time this weekend and get the panel off, so I can see what my problem is for the power window to work. You do hear a click when you try to go down or up, but that is it, just a click. So I know it seems it is getting power, but I will find out the problem and post back on the forum.

Thanks for the reply
Joe

The front regulators do not have the same failure problem as the rear. The front passenger window quit working on my car, and the next day my friend'* 2000 also quit. I took the panel off mine, removed the 3 screws that held the motor on, which released the pressure on it, and it started to work fine. It was apparently mechanically bound up. My friend'* mysteriously started to work again all on its own.

Joe, there are 7 pins total. 3 along the bottom and 4 along the sides. What I used was a 1 1/2" putty knife that I ran along the door until I felt a pin. Then I would insert a second putty knife on the other side of the pin. Then with a knife on each side of the pin; twist the knives, and you should here a loud POP. This is normal for those pins, it just sounds scary. The two pins on the bottom corners are long, the rest are short.

You're going to want to remove the piece around the door lever so that the lever will clear the panel later. Then pry the trim piece around the switch, and that'* it. Do this gently using a pocket srewdriver. DO NOT pry out the wood grain piece or the reflector.

The clips in the center behind the armrest are hidden from view, but don't worry, just pull straight up and NOT OUT, with the door panel and you will disengage the clips.

After you disengage the pins and the center clips, you will disconnect the wire harness coupling from the switch.

If you can do this simple job of door panel removal and change out the regulator; you will save yourself a ton of money because the dealer will quote you about $800.
