Default L36 UIM

I am curious if any of you have had your uim pull away from the throttle body. I was looking at mine today and there is enough room to slide a dime in width wise would that be a sign that it is getting ready to go out on me and if it is which is better the dorman kit or the one from bob and are those remans that he does

I think some of them tend to warp at the TB slightly over time and end up looking like you describe. Not sure how long it'* got. Mine has a very small gap too. Others can add more

Having a small gap between UIM and throttle body is not necessarily an indicator of a bad UIM. When I installed my current Dorman, brand new with a sleeve, I still had a small gap. I can actually see my TB gasket if I look hard enough.

If you know the UIM may be getting worn out anyway, you can try installing a sleeved one and see if the gap is any less. However, I wouldn't be too concerned if the gap remains. The TB gaskets are very thick, and should still provide a good seal. In the event that you're still concerned about it, you can apply some RTV silicone gasket maker to the problematic areas for extra insurance.

I read the link to the 95-03 upper intake, that was posted in a reply to this topic.
It told how to read the date on the upper intake. It also said it may be helpful in determining if it had been replaced.

I read the code on my intake and it is as follows: 01-19-11, reading from right to left as the link said. What does this tell me, am I in more or less danger of the intake failing?

Instead of posting a new topic I just replied to this one as it may be helpful to someone else.

Tim, that tells you that you have the original UIM in your car. Depending on the miles you have already, it could mean you should keep a close eye on your coolant and engine performance.

Gojo83, per your replacement grading request. Which replacement you choose will be a judgement call. The Dillon UIMs are roughly $60 IIRC and are "remanufactured" from UIMS removed after failure. They are then sleeved and I believe the coolant passages are plugged. The sleeving/plugging should prevent any further failure due to coolant passage breakdown.

Then there is the APN UIM kit. It is all new manufacture and also includes sleeving, though not with as much air gap as the Dillon ones. These appear to be a very good kit for the money.

The Dorman UIM kit is getting to be a better and better deal, depending on how old the Dorman stock is where you get yours. What I mean by this is; Dorman has begun adding multiple choice sleeves for any year S2 LIM fit, plus they are including all the seals and o-rings necessary to do the job, and the coolant elbow. Their price has gone down to meet the market too, with the last price I saw at @ $140. Dorman has also added extra material to their UIM in an attempt to make it last. The Dorman stovepipe sleeving has improved recently also.

Others can comment or offer their opinions as to which is the best choice for you.
