Default Torx bit for the supercharger drive belt tensioner.

Just wondering what size that Torx bit is. I don't have any and definitely don't feel like buying a full set just to change the belt on my father'* 2000 Bonneville SSEi. So yeah, would anyone happen to know what size Torx bit I will need? Thanks in advance.

MODS: feel free to move this into the 2000-2005 section, I didn't scroll down far enough to see those before making this post. Please forgive the newbie mistake.

Hm, are you sure? I was searching through this thread: http://www.bonnevilleclub.com/forum/...highlight=torx and one member said that he used a T50. I could just buy both.

My bad. I just checked mine against the pulley and it was a little loose. Just take the car with ya and size it at the parts store

Just confirming that the T50 fits nice and snug so go with that. The T47 works but you don't want to strip that bolt because the dealer can't get you a new one and they don't come with the pulley so you have to order a whole new tensioner.

To make it easier in case you have to replace it again down the road find a GTP in the salvage yard and get the hex head bolt off it. That'* what I did on my parents 2002 Park Avenue Ultra. Easier to dig up a 15mm (IIRC) socket than try and find a T50 torx bit.

You might want to buy a few of them. I went through 3 torx bits, ripped them in half, before that bolt finally broke loose. And, yes, I was turning it the right way.

I just did this a week ago. I went to carquest and bought a T47 bit. I worked perfect. The one thread where the guy used a T50, he had stripped it out and had to pound a T50 into it to get it out. You are on the right track with a T47, about $7. Good luck.

Did he take the tensioner off first before pounding the bit in? i don't have enough room in there to even get the torx bit on with my ratchet, i use a vice grips clamped down on the body of the torx and it works nicely. The T47 will work but if I were you i would use the T50 for the longevity of the bolt.Thats a lot of torque to be putting on a torx fitting that has some play in it.
