Time for New Plugs and Wires?
Greetings--
Over a 680-mile trip to lovely Iowa this weekend, I only averaged about 23.8 mpg with 95% interstate travel at 70-78 mph. Car ran like a top (except for the lovely shimmy--danged RS-A'*!!!) but this mileage seems extremely low compared to what I've been reading. Winds were fairly calm all weekend so I don't believe there was any excessive aerodynamic drag. Just my buddy and myself (215/185-lbs) and probably 40 lbs. of cargo.
Time for plugs and wires? I was shocked when doing the math at the pumps.
Thanks.

hmmm, it shouldn't need either of them. Get the O2 scanned though. Although 70-80 mpg will effect gas mileage, I bet if you were going 65, it would have been better

Is this something the local parts house folks can do with their scanners in the parking lot? I'm not a big AutoZone fan, but I do know they will scan for free. Several others will too I'm guessing. AZ just happens to be on my way home from work.

Given the age, I wouldn't be as concerned with the mileage on the plugs and wires.
I think $60 would be well spent on a new set of plugs and wires. They're eight years old afterall.
