What are the chances the bulb is burned out for the SES light?

You should throw a DTC and the SES light with the O2 sensor out. Like Dan said...what'* the chances that your SES bulb is burned out.

Not to make you worry anymore than you probably are, but if your bulb is good, there might be something else happening here.

Try this. Unplug your MAF and start the car. It wont hurt nothing. But you will throw a SES light right away. It will go away when you plug it back in. If that light don't go on. I would check that bulb.

The SES light comes on before I start the car so it at least lights. I think it is Gremlins! Our 98 SSEi had them too but it was mchanical things like windows working eratically and things like that. I put the O2 sensor in at lunch and the car fired right up and ran for about 35 min before surging, sputtering and dieing. I misted it with water last night, but didn't find any thing but my sample size was very small as it loaded up pretty quick. It was very fat this morning and wouldn't start. Did unplug the MAF and did not get a SES light. I am thinking maybe the cat is the way to go. There is a rattle coming from there like it is coming apart inside. I see high flow cats for dirt cheap, and if I am cutting my exhaust up what muffler is a good replacement for a driver car and do you recomend I remove the resonators on the tailpipes

One of the issues with the 2000 SSEi is that some cats throw DTC'*. I put a Goerlich Hi-Flow on my car and no resonator, with MagnaFlows. Magna Flow Mufflers and Hi-Flow Cat on Flickr - Photo Sharing!

Hey for a final update (I hope), changed the mass air sensor after some advise from a automotive instructor friend of mine. The car seems to want to run fine now. Drove it to and from work and it is running great. By the way, the test he had recomended, was to lightly tap on the sensor and if the car dies change the sensor. The theory is that when it heated up it lost contact inside. The test will be tonight driving out of town. I appreciate all the help I got.
