"service engine soon"
Hey guys, I know this is probably a generalized question but i will ask just in case I am wrong. I have a 2000 SE and on my way home from work last night, my service engine soon light came on. The car runs just fine and idles fine. Do any of you have any ideas what could throw this code @115k? My first thought was the MAF but I wanted to check with you all first. Thanks in advance for all helpful answers and advice.

You would have to have the vehicle scanned to know exactly what the code is. The SES light is only showing you that you have at least one code stored. Advanced or some other parts store should be able to pull the code for free. Write it down and repost to this thread and someone should be able to help you.

nevermind. I just opened my gas door and saw that the cap was completely backed off... Yeah, my fiancee just drove my car a few days ago and put gas in it... fill in the blanks... Lol!

okay so I got another light on. the scanner said something about being lean at bank 1. I am assuming its an O2 sensor. Does anyone know if I am correct and which one it would be?

Yah its an O2 sensor, I think that would be the front
It might just clear out, with some cold weather something could be a little bit out of line, check and see if it stays for a few days, could be low fuel pressure not getting enough fuel into the engine and higher RPMs, or dirty injectors

Lemme repeat

Lean banks are caused by a multitude of things and the code is thrown because the sensor reads that the exhaust is a little lean, the pcm adjustes beyond it'* allowable limits and is programmed to let you know.
Vacuum leaks
Poor battery connections
Corroded battery cables
Bad maf sensor
Are the usual issues, in that order.

Check your vacuum lines and i mean all of them my car was throwing codes like this a few weeks ago after inspecting some lines it turned out some of the throttle body lines were cracked after replacing them the light went off so inspect your lines and make sure theres no air escaping you can check by slightly squeezing the tubes while the car is running if it starts to release air then change them(You might have to get them from a dealership). if you check everything else try adding a fuel injector cleaner no off the wall brand either get a good brand even if its $15 or more its worth it even if it doesn't get rid of SES sometimes injectors get clogged from using unleaded fuel and causes the engine light to come on.
