After good service from my 2000 se with 60k, I am completely frustrated with a constant vibration. I am into the car for over a grand on tires, brakes, force balancing and nothing. Tonight I read posts at carsurvey.org on the cadillac seville. Same problem. The lesabre also seems prone.

I pretty much made up my mind tonight to trade it in tomorrow. Indications are its some type of bearing I quote on the Cadillac Deville at carsurvey.org 'Vibration problems at high speed when brakes applied, new rotors and pads applied with zero results still vibrates, took vehicle to dealer and was told its the left outer tie rod end and left hub bearing a $700.00 repair 56000 miles on vehicle.' I also heard it could be tie rods or some type of bearing in the tranny.

Anyone here having these problems. The car is out of warranty, and I feel that I am on a fishing expedition. I spent $125 to force balance the tires today and its worse!!


I see that Pontiac has 3 or 4 service bulletins relating to this matter.

Does the vibration seem worse in a turn, one way or the other?
If your in a parking lot with speed bumps and turn while driving over one due you feel a slight clunk or jar in the steering wheel?
I have replaced 3 wheel bearings and this is what I feel when goes out.

Thanks for the inquiry. The vibration originally occurred between 60-70. Since it was put on the hunter machine today, it almost has a "wobble" to it from 40 on up. The Firestone dealer (Has LH-30'*) with 4,000 miles on them, never had any weights on the inside of the tires. Since they were properly balanced, the problem is worse. The dealer I went to today thinks there may be a bad radial belt. But from the Cadillac forum, I culled these comments,
The dealership installed a new set of Michelin Symmetry tires on my vehicle. The tires were "broken down" and mounted

in MB4 A2000 mount.

The vibrations are gone.

2. bought a 2000 DHS with 30,000 miles on it and it developed a vibration at 60 to 70 mph. I tracked it down to be the seal

on the left side drive axle. It was leaking whenever we turned the wheel and when the shaft was pulled it was found to

have worn. The race was worn and the new seal was a temporary fix, the vibration disappeared.

I am now having the trans pulled because the race gets replaced from the inside. Pricey...

3. Anyway when your Deville starts to vibrate reach up and take it out of overdrive and see if it goes away. On our LS400 it

did the trick. You can also tap the brake and ours went away also. Try it, it won't hurt. Maybe we can narrow down the

problem and get it fixed. Someone ask Cadillac about transmission converters

the vibration that use to be there is now almost gone. Do
you suppose the vibration could be due to faulty bearings or not properly loaded? the whole front end feels a lot

6. Could be that the 2 engine stabiliser bars bushing is worn out. I had the same problem between 65 and 75mph and

when I got this replaced it fixed the problem. Hope this helps.

7. Bought a 2000 devil last month, noticed the vibration at 65-75mph, and also noticed a small vibration in the hood at that

speed also. Took it back to the dealer, and they replaced a "bad" tie-rod and adjusted the hood latch. NO more vibration I

am happy to say.

Wow, where to start with this problem? As mentioned, I really feel the path of least resistance is to trade it in. It has been a great car, but outside of tires, etc., the cost of the above noted repairs far outweight the present cost of the vehicle.

I wish there was some simple answer.

I doubt your tires are the problem and your balance and alignment seem fine too.
These are big heavy cars and it is not uncommon to have to replace a wheel bearing at 60,000 miles. The bearing also contains the speed sensor so it is spendy, $350 but it can be replaced at home with common hand tools and a torque wrench.

I'm sorry you feel your only option is to trade it in, I would stay with it?

i have the same problem... but its not that bad... im going to change the rotors and pads out and most likey that will fix my problem. its been a while since last change. dont trade it in!!! these cars are great!

Firestone approved the replacement of 2 tires. It did not help. The dealer went ahead and put on new T rated Bridgestone Potenza EL400 tires. They also force balanced them on a Hunter machine. It cost me about $375 for the 2 new tires and balancing.

I would say that 85-90% of the vibration is gone. I still notice at highway speeds.

I called Firestone HQ the next day, and found them to be very professional. They gave me a case number and had me in touch with the district manager on a conference call. He called me back the next morning and they are refunding me the price of the two Potenzas and balancing. So I have 4 new tires.

My call to Firestone was not about money. I wanted to know if they would stand behind their product. They did so 100%. The Potenzas are not the high performance tires, but a "touring" tire. They are much quieter than the H rated Affinity LH-30'* that were on there, and ride a lot better. They don't handle nearly as well.

Wanted to let everyone know that the dealer felt that there is some correlation between the T and H tires on the Bonnie'*, at least my SE. They seem much more sensitive to harder rubber. The only sticking point is no one seems to agree on tire pressure. Pontiac calls for 30 all around. Firestone is telling me to pump them up between 34-36.

I want to thank the folks who responded here and the reassurance. I greatly appreciate it. The car has been excellent, but this was a real hassle.

I had a lot of vibration the first couple of years that I had my 01, the dealer had to replace the both front rotors both times. They said that they get warped very easy from heat. After the couple of times I had them replaced, I purchased SP performance cross drilled and slotted front rotors and replaced the pads with ceramic'*. It worked great.

I seem to have a constant slight vibration I can feel through the steering wheel at freeway speeds. All wheels have been balanced and checked. Not sure why it does it. Car only has 25,000 miles.

I recently purchased a used 2003 SSEI from a Chevy dealer. The tires are 17" Goodyear RS-A, new on the front and good tread on the rear. The tires vibrate at highway speeds. I can feel it in the steering wheel. The dealer balanced the tires and there was only a small improvement. The dealer resurfaced the front rotors and re-balanced the tires and still no big difference. Then I went to a tire dealer and had the road force balance done. This made the situation a little better. They said the maximum road force was about 16lbs and that was considered good. The vibration is not severe but it bothers me since I drive highway speeds most of the time. What else can I do? I made an appointmen with a Pontiac dealer thinking that they had more expertise or access to service bulletins, etc. Has anyone else with this problem ever found a solution?

I would get a vibration from 45 to 70 but as soon as i turn left or right it would go away = bad tie rod end. cost me $47 to fix, its not a hard job.

ROD
