Default Ignition problem.

My 2000 Bonie did not start this morning. I replaced the battery, and checked Ignition fuses and relays.

It had happen before but after several attemps the car started. But now is totally dead.

Any advice about what the problem might be?

Thanks.

Does the starter activate at all? Lights work? Can you be a bit more descriptive of the exact symptoms?

The start does not activate at all.
The light work just fine since the battery is new.
When I turn the key on, there is no sound at all.
I believe the parking shift switch is working fine since it is opening the door locks.

There was a technical service bulleting issued for the ignition switch
Ignition Switch - Intermittent No Start

File In Section: 08 - Body and Accessories

Bulletin No.: 00-08-49-015

Date: November, 2000
Subject:
Intermittent No Start/No Crank
(Replace Ignition & Start Switch Assembly)

Models:
2001 Oldsmobile Aurora

2000-2001 Pontiac Bonneville
Condition
Some customers may comment that the ignition and start switch assembly in the above listed vehicles may not operate properly resulting in an intermittent no start/no crank condition.

Cause
This condition may be due to plastic particles interfering with the electrical contacts of the ignition switch assembly.

Correction
An improved ignition switch assembly, P/N 25721650, is now available from GMSPO.

Refer to the Instrument Panel, Gauges and Console sub-section of the appropriate Service Manual for replacement procedures.
Another possibility is what 2000Silverbullet experienced.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know the procedure for removing and re-installing the ignition switch?
I would like to check it out and see if it is broken before ordering the part.

Did you check the fuse as listed in the link to Silverbullet'* post? You can try the security relearn procedure here http://www.intense-racing.com/sec_relearn.html, but that shouldn't be a problem unless you've replaced some module.

See if your getting 12 volts to the purple wire going to the starter solenoid. The key has to be in the start position.
