upper intake ????
hey guys, on my wife'* 01 SE, there'* some slight leaking around the intake gasket. what actually will need to be replaced? how do i know if the plenum is bad? or is it always going to need to be replaced? does anyone have specific instructions on how to replace the plenum/gasket??
is there anything else that should be replaced when that is all apart just for the heck of it?
thanks,
jeff

I would personally replace the UIM if it is original. Look at the date stamps on the top of it to see if it'* original. I had to do mine immediately after purchase of the 2000, and bought a Dorman from the parts store as I couldn't wait for mail order. Use the GM aluminum frame lower gasket. The Dorman comes with the upper intake gasket, EGR stovepipe, and PCV. Past that, you need the coolant elbow (GM or in the HELP! section of the auto parts store). That link provided above covers just about everything you need to know, including links to 2 threads that have pics and instructions. If you've never done one but are otherwise mechanically inclined, plan on maybe 5-6 hours on the first one.
