Actually there is some engines you can get the pistons out from the bottom, BUT compressing the rings to get the new ones back in is the hard part :P
Think I'll go out from the top since I'm gona need to dig those piston chucks out of the combustion chamber also.

Nice call Mark, the inside of the cat was a ball of mud when I dropped the pipe today. Unfortunately the GM dealer never checked this and "Chunked" 3 pistons for me while attempting to diagnose the problem. No other serious damage to be found, but pulling that back side head in the car is not a job for the beginners. I'll post some pictures of the damage later today.
May I suggest an admin sticky this overboost / sure fire engine death cause since GM has never release a bulletin on it? I plan to have long talks with them regarding this failure on Monday.
