curious..how many mile do you get out of rotors?
figured i'd poll this one. How many miles do you guys get out of rotors? I get about 8,000-10,000 out mine before they are warped so bad that at highway speeds the car shakes uncontrollably. I have a friend with an 01 Impala and she has the exact same problem and hers only last about 10,000.

Well it all depends. If you drive through a big *** puddle then slam on your brakes it will warp your rotors. Or if you do repeated braking so the rotors get really hot, that will warp them as well. Also, if you get the cheap rotors they will warp easier as well. You don't necessarily have to buy the expensive rotors, but the mediocre ones are the lowest quality you should go with IMO. If you are having a problem with your factory rotors, then it might be a problem with your driving style. Our SSEi has factory rotors that are in great shape and it has over 125k on it.

I've got 64.000 miles on mine with no problems. The big thing that destroys a rotor is an over torqued lug nut. Any tech that puts a wheel on a modern car with an impact wrench should be shot.

I just did a brake job on my SSEi here about 2 months ago. It had 36k on it at the time. We had bought it with 24k on it and the service records show that it had gone through 2 brake jobs before we bought it. When I pulled the rotors, the thickness was below minimum spec even where the pad doesn't touch. No wonder they were causing problems.
I just put 2 new bendix rotors on and the bendix CT3 pads. I think the total bill for parts came to around $200 and I did all of the work myself. I do not believe that the dealership put ceramic pads back on as the pads that were on there would squeal at the slightest pressure to all the way full on and the brake dust was VERY excessive. Now since putting on the Bendix CT3 pads (ceramics), i have experienced no squeal and practically no dusting. The feel of the brakes is amazing. I am very satisfied.

It also depends on your driving style. If you are like my wife who does not anticipate that she will have to slow down and goes from the gas pedal immediately to the brakes, you will get far fewer miles on pads and rotors than someone who takes their foot off the gas a block before a stop sign or traffic light and lets the engine do some of the braking. Also, city driving is far harder on brakes than highway.
I've given up trying to educate my wife and just live with it.
Regarding torquing of the lug nuts, I have even caught dealers, who really should know better, cranking down with an impact gun. Everything I have read says that overtorquing or unevenly torquing lug nuts can quickly lead to rotor warping.

I agree, I always use the torque wrench on my lugs. I don't think my driving style is that bad, i do drive fast but i don't tend to slam on the brakes. I do 95% city driving so it is stop and go alot. However my pads will last through 2 rotor turns before they are done. So that is about 20-25,000 miles.
