Default Cooling fan wont shut off

For the past few months i have noticed that as soon as i turn the car on the cooling fan also comes on. Over the summer it wasnt a huge deal to me to have fixed because it was hot outside anyways. Now its getting into the teens outside and the car wont heat up over about 125 - 150. I was wondering if that could be a thermostat or maybe just a switch on the fan. has anyone had this problem.

Turn your climate control completely off. The fan is supposed to run when the AC is selected. This is a nice trick to remember if you're in stop and go traffic on a hot day.

Well heres an odd one. First the fans wouldn't shut of regardless of what I did other than pull the Buss or relay out for each fan. So I stopped over at a buddies house who has a scanner. We first got a code 408 I think saying their was a bad relay or connection at the relay. We thought it most likely set because I had pulled the relay so he cleared the code out.
After running the car up to temp the fan'* would not kick in. We even tried several times to make them come on by turning on the A/C & defroster & nothing. I checked both fan relays & they were fine.
I than decided to pull the harness at the temp gauge & they came on as there supposed to . I than plugged it back in & once the car dropped to normal temp they shut off like they should but still will not come back on for any reason other than unplugging the harness again. He than scanned the car again & got a code showing the temp sensor, which we assumed would happen after unplugging it.
The only other thing that my Buddie caught that i didn't notice at first was that the A/C compressor is not cycling on when you turn on the A/C. Being that it is cold outside I didnt realize the A/C was not working.
After him noticing that we thought that maybe the switch on the A/C line could be the fault. I breezed through another thread here somewhere as well that mentioned a similar problem & the switch on the A/C side causing a problem somehow.

Anyway sorry to the OP I'm not trying to hi jack your thread. But I was hoping one of us could end up helping the other one out in finding a common cause. I didn't get much farther than that because it was dark & raining. I'm going to dig a bit more tomorrow to try to find the problem. I'll post back what I come up with.

I tryed the trick of turning off the heater to see if it would trip the fan off but nothing happened. Then I tryed just turning the system on but on the A/C OFF mode and that still didnt fix anything. I think im gonna take it in thursday and see if the local mechanic has any ideas.

I got to messing around last night & I'm still stumped with mine. Now they seam to be working, although they still are not coming on with the A/C for whatever reason.
They are turning on with the defroster, both will run at a slow speed. I couldn't get them to kick on from temp only. I ran the car for a good 5 minutes holding it at about 2 grand but it just didn't wont to get any warmer than just a hair over 200F. I do have a drilled 180F stat so Im sure this + cooler outside temps were not working in my favor.
I'm just gonna let it ride for now & just keep an eye on things. I've had so much crap going on lately I just can't get the time to really dig into mine like I would like.

So I took it into the shop and the temp issue ended up just being a thermostat which I should have gussed but I thought it was the cooling fan. The I found out that apparently when I push Auto on the HVAC the defroster came on but didnt show the defroster icon, and if the defroster is on the fan is on. So now I feel dumb and waisted a bunch of money on this diagnostic scan to tell me that the defroster was on. LOL

Yeah, anytime the defroster is on, it kicks the fans on.

I thought this was pretty common knowledge?
