hockey puck engine mount
Hello everybody
To my knowledge my front engine mount is going, and i had read on the forum that some members had fab'd up a mount with hockey pucks ....eh. I am thinking about doing this mod for many reasons. Although i am hesitant about it causing damage...i.e. axle snap, tranny problems from the engine not being able to move to absorb the stress.
I understand the benefits of having solid mounts ( i have them in my drag truck), as the engine output is generated to propulsion and not lost in torquing the motor losing power. Is there any concern for breakage of parts.

Haven't heard of any detrimental affects from having the solid (center) motor mount. There are a few members that have installed them, maybe they will chime in.

Should there be any such pucks i should avoid or be looking for. I am in Canada so they pretty much grow on trees around here....(haha). I am kind of hesitant about using ruber pucks as they will become brittle after time, so would neoprene or poly would be the way to go. What about fab'n up a steel mount or would that be to harsh for the road. Thanx "TheKaddyKid"

FWIW - I ended up using black hockey pucks (they did not have the orange version.) Nine months later and they are still holding up fine.
I was skeptical at first too....but now I believe. :P

i have over 100,000 miles(i made the first one for my 2000 SSEi) on my solid mount with NO PROBLEMS .

i did not have to jack my mortor/tranny , just take out the old mount and put in the new one.The distance between the bottom of the motor mount bracket and the top side of the cross member on my car is 3 5/8 inches. When you step on the gas that front motor mount trys to tear itself in half. You can use the hockey pucks, or anything that can take up that space. I would suggest a 2 1/2" or 3" hole saw and cut a couple of disks out of the sidewall of an old tire, to put on top and bottom of the hockey pucks. The only weight on the spacer is when the motor is at rest. There is no weight on it when you are under power. When you are under power the engine torques backwards trying to tear the bolt in half. I suggest the use of the tire sidewalls so you can tighten the bolt down good and compressed on the hockey pucks to keep them from vibrating. Tell us how it all works out and if you like it or not. I do not notice any vibration but I have had mine on for four plus years.

did you notice an improvment in performance. The main problem is that when my car shifts at WOT it feels like the engine is going to come inside and sit next to me. If I get on it and then let off, i can feel it rock...which is not good. Im still hesitant..it is my daily driver. any info please

Don't worry Kaddy. It'* a good safe mod. I have been happy with mine for 4 years.
The main reason I did mine was to stop the engine movement for a sharper throttle response. It really jumps now with no wasted engine motion, just straight to the wheels. Definitely do it.
