There was a new part number for what was supposedly an updated version, however it looked just the same as the old one when I replaced mine, and lasted just under a year before the problem cropped up again.
Mine was either replaced or lubed sometime before I bought the car at 45,000 miles, and is on its second one now at 71,000. Both of mine, and one on my friend'* car has been the top aluminum U-joint, not the shaft.
