Default Gas gauge issues

Hi all, recently my '00 SSEi gas gauge is not working correctly. It will work until about 1/2 full then often will show correctly and suddenly go up to 1/2 again even though I know it is about 1/4 or even less..

Recently in a Denver snow I did feel the bottom drag in the rear end area as I drove over some higher snow.. Not sure if something stuck in there or is loose or what.

Has anyone had this happen?
Is there a sesor or wire I need to look into replacing?

Thanks all

The fuel sender is likely going bad. This is a how-to on an inexpensive fix.

I've done the repair..a little tricky getting the retainer ring off but not that bad if you are somewhat technically inclined.

I have done this. It took about an hour. There are a number of members that have done it also. My gauge works great now.

Follow the instructions and it should take less than a hour. Very good instructions and kudos to the individual who took the time to provide the details to this list. I'm sure it will save many people a lot of cash. I did mine in less than 45 minutes a year and a half back and it has worked flawlessly ever since.

I am a member of a number of automotive forums and I must say that the group here on the Bonneville forum has been the most helpful of all. Every problem that I have encountered with my Bonneville was repaired myself with the help of those on this list that had the same problems and took the time to share the "fix" on this forum. Thanks a bunch!

My dad'* Park Ave is having close to the same problem but the mechanic came to the conclusion that the Arm is bent. We had to replace the fuel pump and the other shop we took it to bent the arm while installing it. We still have the old pump. Would it work if we just swaped the arms?

Hey, is there any way to get these instructions back again. I desperately need to get this problem taken care of. It'* been flaky for awhile now and the wife ran out of gas the other day and boy did I hear about it. Seems to me that the part that was associated with this fix was substantially less than the $120 Rock Auto wants for a fuel level sensor. Mine is an '02 SE. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I remember seeing this thread from before and it was very helpful and informative.
Thanks.

fuel line is under the passenger side could be pulled or stressed check for gas leak it could have come loose or needs replacement .....reads weird on gas gauges ....warning even if it is slightly stressed is could be gone ...only replace with GM lines :"FUEL line......
