Default Has anyone hood ever came open while driving?????????

coming home from work this morning I happened to look down at the hood and the thing was open.

It was bouncing along just barley holding on.

Me nor my wife had opened it.

I did notice the bug deflecor/bra flying around a bit could this have had a effect on the latch coming open?

There should have been a warning on the DIC. I know mine does when the hood is popped and the car is put in drive.

why not. It may have been caught in there for a while now and finally
decided to pop loose.

I have never heard anybody in the club mention this before.
How is it now?

Heavens to murgatory, no! I've never had a hood pop open while driving, this could be disasterous. That is why there is a secondary latch in place to prevent this from ever happening. dbeast420, I've never heard of a warning on the DIC for "hood ajar" conditions. Maybe the 2000+ doesn't have that particular feature.

umm, all modern hoods are designed with the double latch system for that exact reason. It is designed so that the weight of the hood along latches it so it cannot come up unless the lever is manually pushed up. And the second lock is designed for security reasons and so that the hood fits flush and tight. Therefore, the only possible way a hood could come flying up is if the spring on the stage 1 latch corroded or snapped, or if the whole latch assembly was rusted out of its bolts. I have been going down the freeway and seen it bouncing with the air under it, and IT IS FOR SURE a very uneasy feeling seeing it like that, that I have to admit. But yes I will agree with the bra possibly getting in the way and not allowing the stage 2 lock to fully engage. These hoods do latch down VERY tight. You might have to adjust those little hood posts...dunno exactly what they are called. But you might have to make more room for that bra. What is your year and trim? It all depends, but usually bras are not really good for these cars since they already are pretty susceptible to rust and other types of corrosion. Plus I have heard of them sometimes ruining the clearcoat. Just a cautionary statement.

Good luck with keepin that hood down!

Indeed there is no warning on theDIC for hood ajar. I figured this out whie test driving a 97'. Dont remember what trim level that it was. That was before I had found BC, now I would know though.

I have never had it happen to me, but a friend did. He rear ended a car and busted up the front. He was severeal hundered miles from home so latched the hood best he could and started driving. He decided it didn't look right, so tried to fix it at the next gas stop. Off he drove, and at over 70MPH, up came the hood, blew out the windshield. I have never seen a hood form it'* self so nicly to the shape of the windshield.

I've got it on mine. Maybe after 1999 GM thought we were smart enough to make sure our hoods were latched
