feel a little bump or "slip" in steering wheel
On my 2002 SSEi, You can feel a little movement in the steering wheel, like maybe the transmission has a little give, or the steering components.
Under normal driving, from a stoplight it you feel it "bump" as you slowly accelerate, then slowly "bump" the other way as you slow down. It feels like a bolt is loose somewhere and there is enough slack in the bolt hole to let it move very slightly.
I know that is/was hard to understand, but let me know if anyone actually did

Jeremy... check out the common problems stickey at the top of the page. Specifically the intermediate shaft. I believe that is your "feeling"

like as in the wheel is "bumping" forward and backwards or left and right??
if its forward and back i think its your front suspention.. if its left and right it would be your tie rod ends....
just my firdt guess.....
lift the front end up off the ground and see if you can move the wheel forward and back or left and right...

Based on the experience of the club and the gearhead staff on site, we see 2 common issues that could be plagueing your steering.
1. Intermediate Shaft
or
2. Strut bearing.
The intermediate shaft will be more of a noise and slight play in the steering wheel, while a strut bearing will more likely give more feedback and a larger "pop" in and out of alignment.
There are a couple of stickies at the top of the page that should help you out.

the reason i stated that was cause when the front suspention when out on my bville i could feel the wheels bump forwards and backwards every time i hit a bump or put it into gear... i didnt know what it was so i lifted the front end and the i could move (by hand) the whole wheel (front to back)
after i replaced the suspention it was fine..

Its those are good suggestions, although knowing we have some common issues that most 00+ owners experience...checking them is usually the fastest route to the problem. It may be that the common issues don't seem bad and the suspension is right on.

If you don't get that bumping sensation when you're turning your wheel at slower speeds, it'* most likely not your intermediate steering shaft. I think you probably would have mentioned a popping while turning at slower speeds if it was that, but you didn't. My guess would lie with something suspension related, not steering based on how you described the problem. Good luck!
