Default Tach died?

The tach on my parent'* 2001 died - just sits on zero. Otherwise, the car seems to be running fine. Any clues?

Thanks,

Dan

Any SES codes? Possible VSS failure or the gauge may have died.

try pushing on the intstrument panel. I say that because I had a similar problem. the dashes have a ribbon cable going to them that can cause shorts if not seated just right. There are 4 clips holding the dash into place that snap into place. If it'* not seated correctly gauges can die randomly. if you tap on the dash, can you get them to turn back on?

Yes, I believe seating is the issue. It just started to work again all on its own.
In the future, if I have to remove the dash :? to sure up the connection, is that an easy process?

yes. very easy. you just remove the two rivit like fasteners just above the gauges and then the rest of the dash bezel surrounding the radio, climate control, gauges, etc pops off quite easily.
