2004 Bonneville SLE, comfort & economy in a large sedan; original owner of a 208k mile 71 SS350 Chevelle, 4-speed, 3.31 12 bolt, not so economical, but a blast to drive.

The cabin air filter is not a dealer installed option. It includes an access panel in the cowl wind screen with 2 tabs to release it, as well as features in the cowl to guide the filter assembly and hold it in place. There is no way these features are dealer installed.

I wasn't implying that the access panel was dealer installed, I was talking about the filter/frame assembly only.

If you have the access panel, you have the cabin air filter as an OEM option.

They are tricky to install. Be patient.

On 2000-2002 H-bodies, I do not know that the cabin filter itself was omitted on certain low line vehicles and do not know if the access panel was omitted as well by using a blank cowl plastic. IIRC, the skeleton for the AC Delco filter snapped into some metalwork under the cowl.

For 2003, I do know that the cowl had the access panel, but when I went to check the filter after 6 months, there was no filter and not support skeleton for same.

I asked the service manager who suggested I buy a filter and skeleton at the parts counter and they snapped it in for me.

I use the Purolator replacement filters which work fine--and they are MADE IN THE USA unlike all of the others I could find.
