Tire pressure monitor
I heard on the news (NPR Radio) that the government has been condidering legistlation that would require tire pressure monitors on new cars. I think it is a good idea that would prevent a fair number of tire failures, but it made me think.
I have a slow leak in my left rear tire that triggers the 'Check tire pressure' warning. The problem is that this warning code doesn't clear itself even after you inflate the tires properly. Every morning, I have to hit the reset button on the dash. Anyone know whether this is normal? It isn't a big deal, just annoying.

In order to fully reset the tire pressure warning message, cycle through to the Tire Pressure Monitor screen on your DIC (driver information center if you didn't already know) and then hold down the reset until it reads 'Tire Pressure Normal'. By just hitting the reset button every morning, you are just acknowledging the fact that one or more of your tires is low on air. You must reset the warning by holding down the reset button until the message states normal from the Tire Pressure screen.
I believe that should fix your problem.

My wifes '01 SE doesn't have a DIC and Does have tire pressure warning system,.......it has a HUGE tire system monitoring Reset button right up on the dash,......the system just triggered last week,..checked the tire pressures and one tire was about 10Lbs lower than the other 3,......filled up the tire and pushed/held the Reset button until the dash light blinked and reset the system........NO reoccuring triggering since then. The system is a Great thing to have(had one on my '97 Grand Prix GTP as well[I think they stopped putting them in Grand Prixs for a few years after '97 for SOME foolish reason]),.......ALL vehicles will have them by '08,I think,as Big Brother has 'suggested' all automakers on every vehicle to do.......DOAH !!....what took them So long[....BTW the Stabilitrak(electronic stability control) system on my '00 SSEi is something that I will Never own a vehicle without,as well.......simply Amazing the way it works and how it brings your car out of a slide......and more and more vehicles are coming out with ESC standard or optional......pretty sure GM is going to have them on all of their vehicles within a couple of years

I stand corrected.
Well, now even the DIC-less have thier answer on how to reset the tire pressure monitoring system.
I apologize in advance if that statement offended anyone...lol

The owners manual says that the reset threshold is 5 seconds, fwiw.
