Default Programming Keys without Scan Tool

Hey everyone its been a while since I last posted but I wanted everyone to know that I successfully programmed a new key for my 2000 SSEI without a scan Tool. The only reason I am posting this is because it seems like everyone thinks you can not do this.

Just so everyone knows I bought the key on ebay for about 15 dollars with shipping and brought it to my local hardware store to get it cut for 2 dollars. After that I read in my repair book that I have to insert a scan tool and go through a bunch of stuff with that. However, all i did was insert my old key and turned the acc. on (not the engine) and waited about 5 seconds. I then took out the original key and inserted the new key and turned it to acc. on (not the engine) and waited 5 seconds. After that i took out the new key and put it back into the ignition and started the car.

I dont know if I got lucky or what but i thought I would share with everyone that It is possible to program new keys to a 2000 Bonneville. I am also going to try to program new key fobs this weekend if they ever arrive. Ill let everyone know if I succeed or not

Where did you find that procedure for the new key on a 2001?

key has been programmed. It may not be apparent
that the SECURITY light went on due to how
quickly the key is programmed.
6. Repeat Steps 1 through 4 if additional keys are to
be programmed.

This is true, additional PASS-Key III (PK3) keys can be programmed w/o going to dealership. New remote transmitters must be encoded by the dealership to match the vehicle.

I'm waiting for my wife to get back with our 03 (LeSabre) to see if the same applies there. The problem is the remote fob and getting it programmed, but a spare key would be nice!

Thanks for the reply. This Bonneville group is great!
