Service Stability System
I was driving down a dry road when the ABS and Traction Control systems shut down, and I got a "Service Stability System" warning in the DIC.
I parked the car for awhile, and when I drove it again the same thing happened.
The only previous problem I have had with the Stability System involved replacing front wheel hubs, but they were making noise....not like this time when the system just shut down for no apparent reason.
Any idea what this could be....a sensor maybe? Can Auto Zone read this problem code with their equipment?
Thx/
Jim

There is a thread about two weeks old titled "Service Theft System"
There were 18 of us who posted asking about the message.
12 of us had 2000 SSEi'*, 1 had a 2001 SSEi, 1 had a 1995 SSEi, 4 didn't identify what car they had.
2 people replaced the Theft System module, and that did not fix the problem.
2 also got the Service Stability message.
None of us has yet reported fixing the problem.
I have a theory that these messages relate to a slightly tired battery. My '98 Corvette started giving me strange messages on cold days when it was 5 years old. It cost me $70 to have Chevy tell me that the battery was getting weak. A $70 DieHard from Sears made all the messages go away.
Now the really interesting part. I have never seen the battery on my SSEi. I looked up on the Sears website to see what DieHard it will take.... and the Website says Sears doesn't stock a battery for the 2000 SSEi.... Huh?
Anyway, I'm not going to let the dealer touch the electronics on my SSEi until I've tried replacing the battery.

Yeah, I get the theft system messages too when it gets cold. You may be right about it being linked to low power from the battery. I'm not sure that would affect the stability system when the car is running, particularly on a warm day.
I'm going to check the wheel sensor connections, and if that doesn't do it...I guess I'm headed to the shop.

I had actually forgotten all about this same thing with my 2000 but several years ago when it was still under warranty, I had the SSS light come on during the winter. I took it to the dealer and from what I remember, they didn't do anything and the problem has never reoccurred.
Interesting about the battery. I know where it is but I have never actually looked at it.

I had the SSS light come on once about 2 mins after I tried and failed to avoid a michigan puddle[pothole], Checked it over, turned off the vehicle and started it back up and havent had a problem since.
