Default Engine noise and high oil pressure!

This past Saturday night I was driving in town and glanced at my oil pressure gauge and it was nearly maxed out. At idle with the engine at operating temp the oil pressure is about 80 PSI and under load it shoots up to roughly 110 PSI. Since this happened I have also noticed an engine noise also. It sounds almost like a lifter tick but a little louder. The noise seems to be most prominent from the passenger side of the engine compartment, towards the front of the engine. The tick will speed up and slow down with engine speed. The oil and oil level looked ok but I was almost due for a change so I did that last night. No change in oil pressure and the noise is still there... I only have 71K on my car and kept it very well maintained. Wondering if anyone had any issues like this in the past??

Thanks!

Jimmyfloyd once had an oil pressure valve or soemthing stick and take out an engine on him (93 SSEi though).

If the pressure was simply maxed to 120, I would say pressure sender, but you have something else going on and in my opinion need to get it professionally diagnosed before using the car.

Isn't high oil pressure a symptom of a spun main bearing?

Here'* an update.... IT'* SMOKED! I'm out of my GMPP coverage by 1800 miles and they won't do a damn thing at all. I just had an intake gasket go about 4000 miles and had coolant in the oil. They still wouldn't do anything about it. Anyone know of a short block or long block available like now??

Got my engine swapped out this past weekend with a good used engine from a salvage yard. The new engine only had 30,000 miles on it. Runs better than before now. When I get some spare time in the next couple weeks I'm going to pull apart the old POS engine and see exactly what happened.

New (used) engine $1000 + the install done by me. (not covered under warranty)

My love-hate relationship with this car is hitting new levels..... :?

I swapped a motor this weekend as well. Ok..two.

Totally understand your hate relationship. Luckily ...mine is with someone elses car

Ted: Spun bearing causes low oil pressure. Oil pressure is created by pushing oil out through the bearings.

ohh man, that is some bad fortune, hopefully that "new" engine will work out for yah. I did not even know those late L67s did that. I thought that was only happening to -99 cars. Good luck!

Lower intake gaskets are the same on all the cars for series 2 L67 and L36. Plastic frame that tends to fall apart over time and possibly due to dexcool not being changed at the appropriate times.

Bill - If a bearing spins it can block the oil passage & cause the oil pressure to increase. Does this make sense or am I off my rocker?
