I think most here would say that the 180* 'stat from Intense is the best one. After that, you want to go with a Stant brand 'stat, which you should be able to get at most any local parts store.

INTENSE'* thermostat is not gonna be anymore "performance" or better quality than any other thermostat you can get at the dealer or a parts store chain... you are only looking at a couple of bucks for the part... dont way your time and money paying for the shipping if you buy it online... just drive downtown and grab one

I don't agree at all Haro, Intense'* thermostat flows more than any other stats I have found. I was able to prove this with my scan tool.

What makes our thermostats so much better than regular ones?
- The flow opening is 50% larger than OEM, allowing our thermostats to give you the extra flow you need without being hampered by the small factory opening that wasn't designed with maximum performance in mind

I posted this not long ago. There'* a remarkable difference between my old 180 stant and the 160 (or any other temp) from INTENSE. I even ran the INTENSE stat through a battery of tests in a pot of water on the stove. It'* all posted somewhere, including my measurements and flow calculations.

The above statement is due to the fact I'm running a heavily drilled 160. A standard INTENSE 180 would benefit any car here (and do so better than a Stant or other brand) without any problems whatsoever. Since this one works so well, I may go back to a mildly drilled 180 and try to run it year-round (other than the 4 months I don't drive the SSEi in the winter).
Many of you know that I've been disappointed in the cooling capabilities of the car since installing a 10% underdrive light-weight water pump pulley. It just doesn't cut the mustard (and yes, my cooling system is in perfect condition from top to bottom). I've resorted to keeping the pulley on, but making other changes to make up the difference, and also making another planned change. I just finished:

BTW, for those that are wondering, I've made my own E-stat, so this thermostat won't cause problems with open/closed loop modes in the PCM. The PCM will think I'm actually 10-15° warmer than it really is.
Difference between the thermostats is indeed the diameter of the opening when it reaches temperature. The INTENSE thermostat should flow just shy of 10% more than the Stant I had in there. So I drilled some carefully calculated bypass holes to make up the rest, and should have made up the flowrate and cooling efficiency I lost when I so greedily pursued the 6-8 horsepower the underdrive water pump pulley gave me.
I am now in the NON-enviable position of having seasonal thermostats. One of them for 4 months of the year, the other for the rest.

Rough measurements on my screen show the larger thermostat to be a 16.7 percent increase in diameter. That'* better than a 30% increase in area (flow) assuming both thermostats open the same distance.
