Is my fuel sender dying ?
2002 SLE... This just started happening on the last three or four tanks of gas... After a complete fill-up everything is normal until the fuel gage goes under 1/4. When it is under 1/4 it seems to be OK until I go around a corner - like on a country road sweeping corner at 60 MPH - or around a freeway on-ramp loop. The needle swings up to 1/2 or 3/4 and varies a little after I straighten out, then pegs at full and stays there. The miles left to empty display then shows something like 460 when just a moment ago it was showing 150, or so. If I stop and shut off the car, wait and restart, it is still pegged - and it does not do the needle swing thing even though the other gages do. If I then go to a gas station and start filling and go turn the key on while it is filling, the gage will track the filling process from about 1/4 to full - and the same scenario replays with that next tank. When I start the car after the fill-up, the needle does the swing thing and it reads normally down until 1/4 and then it freaks out again. Anyone had this issue ? Is this a bad sender unit - or going bad ? Can it be replaced from inside the trunk ? Is there an access port ? How much is a sender unit ? I don't want to try to fix it if it is bad or questionable. I would prefer to just replace it.

Wow ! You are my hero ! That is exactly my problem. I can't believe how much a new unit costs and how easy it is to just fix it with that little part. I will choose the fix it solution. I can't thank you enough. I will let you know how it worked out.

Fuel Sender soultion ?
See this link for an explanation and solution for getting just the replacement tank sender part and not the whole expensive pump unit. What do you think ?
