Default 180 degree stat did nothing

i installed a 180 superstat and it had no effect on my temp guage, still reads about 200. Went and bought another regular 180 stant stat drilled 2 1/16 holes, and installed it, the same thing about 200 on the gauge takes a little longer to warm up. What do i have to do to get the temp down to 180?

Well that doesn't make any sense....You sure your guage is reading right? The Temp should take LESS TIME to open not longer!

I agree, the car only has 8k miles on it. The only time the gauge moves below 200 is when the air cond is on. I am guessing that the fans are on when the air cond is turned on. I am wondering if there is a problem with the radiator, or the cap??

Basically, the gauge is stays at 200, if there is a 195 stat or a 180 stat.

Well the first fan should come on when it gets too hot & the second comes on with the AC! You sure your main fan is even coming on?

Sidenote: Got any pics of that 69 Goat?????

The first fan never comes on, the only time when both fans come on is when then the air cond is on, the fan (*) never are on even if i let it idle for an hour. This is very confusing. I really think it is the radiator or the cap.

I have pics of the 69 goat, i just have to digitize them :P

it makes perfect sense, he switched from a 195 to a drilled 180, the 2 1/16" holes let coolant pass wether the stat is open or not, thus taking more time to get to operating temp. get it?
that still does not explain why the temp is at 200 degrees, and not something lower!

The 180 will open at 180, and STAY open. You can still reach 200, it just prevents that initial heat saturation, but in order to work effectively, the car needs to be moving. Add a tranny cooler now.

With the drilled 180 AND another tranny cooler (stock cooler + aftermarket) I'm running about 190 average now.

One fan will come on at 220, or both at low speed at 220, not sure, and the Auto mode on the climate control will cause the PCM to kick them both on at high speed.

Sounds like the fans are running fine. The extra tranny cooler will prevent the hot trans fluid from pre-heating your coolant in the rad. The cooler trans will also leach heat away from the block, since it'* more in the cool air stream under the car.

Thanks, that makes sense. The only problem i have with adding a tranny cooler, that it might void my warrantee. The car only has about 8k miles on it and is still under a 5 year 75k warrantee. Does anyone know if that will void the factory warrantee by installing a tranny cooler? The car has no tranny cooler outside of the radiator.
Thanks
