Hi guys got a problem.

Something is draining my battery. I took it to my mechanic and he tested the battery and the alternator and both are good. I have an aftermarket alarm system and a dvd player that I believe could be the cause of the battery draining in a few days time. I had to jump it today to take it to the mechanic. Is there an easy way to disable the alarm system like a fuse or something, or is there any other way to diagnoticly find out what is draining my battery over 4 day periods.; I notice after 3 days or so it is slow to start then this morning it would click and no start, my dad jumped me. When I bought the car the scytek aftermarket alarm system was disabled for some reason so I am thinking that might be the culprit, I took it to car toys and they re hooked up the alarm system. So what is the best way to find out what is draining my battery. My mechanic wants 150 dollars to do a thourough testing to see what is draining it. I think it could either be the alarm or the dvd aftermarket player. What do you all think I need your advice on how to stop this battery from draining.

You've posted this very same problem already and you disconnected the alarm, problem went away. Now it'* hooked up and problem returns. What'* to test, problem is the alarm.

Nope the alarm was not hooked up anymore at least the best I could disable it. And the battery still is draining. I don't know how to totally disable the alarm, but it has not been being used at all and the battery still drained.

Just because it'* not on doesn't mean it'* not hooked up. Find the module and unplug it.

Many alarms have redundant power supplies. I agree with Dan. You need to hunt down that PIA alarm and totally disconnect ALL parts and pieces. You may want to reinstall it into a garbage can as well.

Sorry about having 2 posts about this but I need some advise. My car battery is dead again this morning so I think it is the aftemarket dvd player. You don't want a trickle charger. I suggest this one.

I think the problem is when the mobile mechanic installed the dvd player he hard wired the dvd player to the amp built into the car, because the speakers would not play until he did that, so I think the amp is discharging while the car is off, but not sure. so Is there an easy way to unhook that amp wire? I have no idea where it would be at, I know the amp is in the trunk, but I don't know which wire I would disconnect. I called the mobile guy and he said he would put my stock back in but for a fee, and the mechanic shop wants 150 bucks to diagnose the problem for 2 days of having the car. They say not to start unhooking things and have a diagnostic done to make sure it'* not a dome light or door lock mech or something else causing the drain. Which route should I go guys? Should I just start disabling the dvd player and hope thats it. If it still does it then I am out a dvd player. So I am kinda pissed about this battery drain. If the mobile wants more then 150 to hook my stock back up then I will take it to the mechanic shop to do a real work up on what is causing it to drain.

Well just an update, I have removed the aftermarket dvd player and put the stock radio back in and it works perfectly. At least the radio does. Now to see if the battery drains anymore. The car toys tech said my trunk was soaked and that he thinks my amp in the back which is stock is getting wet from the water from the trunk and is shorting out my battery. I will search the forums and find out how to fix the water leak in the trunk. I read something about that a week ago. But let'* hope maybe putting plastic aruond the amp will protect it and the car battery stops draining. I had 2 mechanics check the alternator and battery and both places said they were good so I have to go on that assumption.

Some good news though I got my radio controls back for the radio and my onstar!!!!!

If the amp is getting wet, there could be corrosion and it'* arching to ground, and that would drain the battery.
