Default Adding "The pill" to the coolant..

Dealer had to pull my intake off and reseal when I bought the car with 21K miles.

I complained I am tired of smelling Dexcool and now notice the coolant level in the overflow going down. I looked all around and can't find the leak.

Should I just give in and let them put those stop leak pills in the coolant like they use to do? He swears it won't hurt the system??

I hate to have that motor torn apart again and resealed. I gained a few scratches around the front nose from the first time. Otherwise, I could just live with the smell and go on.

Anyone have any opinions about the pills?

If the LIM gaskets aren't leaking, have the system pressure tested and look for leaks during it.

The thing I don't like about stop leak, is where else will it clump up along the way?

Yeah, the pill sounds like a bandaid fix. Can't believe GM use to put the pill in these cars right out of the factory!

Anyhow, it'* definately a slow leak. 7 months for the overflow to go down 3/4". But you definately smell it every time I pull into the garage.

Just wondering if anyone has learned any more about the additive.

I checked it after reading the problems. It looked fine to me.

Entire engine looks nearly new, only moisture I could find at all was behind/below the alternator leaking between the intake and the block.

Worried about your Cooling system getting pregnant?

Only bad things I've heard about the pill is from the people that try to use it for head gasket leaks. Tends to either not get there, or not fiz it and burn the **** off.

I've been having this same exact problem and thought I had a leak on the intake right below the thermostat housing. Last night I figured out after driving my car hard, the odor of dexcool was more pronounced. when I lifted up the rubber seal between the radiator and ac condenser, there it was a microscopic pinhole emmiting the slightest amount of steam. In my case the rubbrer seal kept any steam from being visible without moving it. Also where the leak is there is a cooling fin pulled away from the rediator its self.

could be something to look at
